He Ain't Heavy - He's our Supply Officer
  by
Jack Liike, USS Lapon SSN-661, 77-79

I clearly remember the Supply officer heading out of the Weapons Loading Hatch. He was leaving the Lapon to catch a transfer boat in the middle of Hampton Roads harbor with orders to another command, and was headed to the pier.

In exchange for an OUTGOING officer, we picked up the INCOMING ORSE team and were headed back out to sea for several days of "FUN" . Unbeknownst to the exiting officer, several of the supply gang had placed over a dozen TDU weights in his duffle bag (which added several dozen pounds the the load he was dragging off the boat, onto the small boat, down the pier, and probably onto a plane to go somewhere else).

I would have loved to have seen the look on his face when he finally opened his seabag and realized that he'd been carrying several memories from his old command.
