Ley Holly Smith, 83, of Orlando, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009. He was a son of the marriage of Judge Frank A. Smith and Hallie L. Smith (nee Ley) and was born in Orlando on April 26, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents and four of his five siblings, Frank A Smith, Jr., Jane Chapman Foti, Margaret Rider and Dan Smith. From early childhood, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Downtown Orlando, where services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 at at 142 E. Jackson St., Orlando. There will be a visitation at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Rd., Orlando on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Ley Smith attended Delaney Street School, Cherokee Junior High School and Orlando High School. Upon graduation from OHS he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served in the submarine service from which he was honorable discharged in May 1946. Thereafter, he met and married Hilda Rose Lederer of Allentown, PA in 1949. He attended the University of Florida and graduated in 1954 from the College of Law. He began his law practice in Orlando and served as City Prosecutor during the late 1950's. He was a member of the University Club of Orlando, President of the Orange County Sportsmen's Association, Worshipful Master of Orlando Lodge #69 F&AM and Scottish Rite (KCCH 32nd degree), President of the Committee of 100 of Orange County, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Orlando Regional Medical Center and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Plaza National Bank. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Hilda; and their children, Frank A. Smith III (Becky) of Kissimmee, Hallie Evans (Stephen) of Tampa, and Ley H. Smith, Jr. of Orlando; grandchildren, Christopher, Frank and Kelly Smith of Kissimmee, Matthew, Isabelle and John Evans of Tampa, Cody, Joshua and Holly Smith of Orlando; brother, David E. Smith (Kaky) of Knoxville, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to First Methodist Church of Downtown Orlando, 142 E. Kenneth Clark Johnson, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, October 13, 2009. He was born November 18, 1917 in Grantsville, Utah to T.R. Johnson and Lucille Clark. After serving proudly during World War II as a submariner [RM1(SS), S-47], Ken married June Ashworth on May 2, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. He continued to serve as a navy-man during the Korean conflict. Receiving a degree from the University of Utah, he taught business classes and served in administrative positions in the public schools system. Ken was an active member The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in a variety of ward and stake positions, accumulating over 65 years in scouting and receiving the Silver Beaver Award. Together with June, they enjoyed being temple workers and serving a mission to Chicago. Preceded in death by his parents, wife June, sister Lucille, brother Ted, grandson Kevin and great-grand-daughter Abigail. Survived by brothers Alan (Jeri) and Joe (Merlene), sons Ken (Ruth), Ron (Judy), Keith (Allison) and Bruce (Becky), 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be Thursday, October 15, 2009, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary (4760 S State St.) with funeral services to be held Friday, 10:00 a.m. October 16, 2009 at the Park Ward (495 E. 5600 S.) Murray, Utah. Friends may call from 8:45-9:45 a.m. prior to services on Friday. Interment: Murray City Cemetery. We especially wish to thank those who cared for Ken during the end of his life.
