Marion Howard Lohmeier, 87, of Raytown, MO, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by his family. Marion was born July 21, 1922 in Colmor, New Mexico to Harry and Freda Lohmeier. He grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Central High School in 1937. Two years later on June 9, 1939, he graduated from Manual Training School. Marion joined the Navy in 1942 where he served on the submarine, the USS Sailfish (SS-192), until 1945. After leaving the Navy he met the "love of his life," Ethel June Willoughby. They were married on March 22, 1947. Marion was a linotype operator by trade, retiring at the age of 66. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Lohmeier and Freda Isaacson; brother, Kenneth (Kay) Lohmeier; son, Marion Jr. (Buzz) Lohmeier and granddaughter, Krickett McLelland. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ethel June; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Frank Travis; grandchildren, Krysti Travis, John McLelland, Kaci and Darren Kobel, Kim and Gary Starr, Klover and Joe Magdziarz, Jessie and Bryan Vernon, Tracey and Matt Pierce; 13 great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 13, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., KCMO. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Wednesday, October 14, at the funeral home.
