At random: The Grampus and Pike were commissioned in ceremonies at Mare Island the same day, Thursday, the 28th of May 1903. A young naval officer, Lieutenant Arthur MacArthur III, older brother of General Douglas MacArthur, assumed command for both vessels at the same time.

Oh so many moons ago JoAnn and I were married at the Shepherd Of The Sea Chapel on Sub Base Groton.

As I recall, the stained glass windows were an impressive montage of Christianity and Submarines.

Before I make an ass out of myself by asking the current chaplain for what might not exist (sheesh my memory is so bad it's a good thing my wife responds to "honey") - do you remember the same windows I do? any online source for nice hi res photos of them?

Thanks in advance - Hugh

Hugh ~ (I’ll post this answer on all three boards) The Chapel on the Thames (on base) has ten stained glass windows. I cannot remember what they look like but they are based on Psalm 148 according to the website.

As I recall the regulations say there cannot be any permanent religious symbols as the chapels can be used by all faiths.
