Has a boat ever gone out with a full load of nothing but exercise fish and seen how long it takes to fire them all off. Kind of like fanning the hammer on a pistol. How long to empty the room? |

I can't believe that would be possible unless you had someone else do the retrieving. It took us all day to fire, retrieve and make ready one Mk 14-3A!
I can't imagine doing an aproach, firing solution and firing at 24 targets.... even if you fired 2 or 3 at each one, that would still be nearly impossible unless you were in the middle of a convoy that had no sonar.
It would be fun though!!

Fairly sure we used do do this at the start of my career in Boats back in '80. We back then had the MK 8 Torpedo. I have vague recollections of embarking a full load of fish and heading out to fire them for trials. Two years later I was to do MK48 trials in Hawaii onboard HMAS OTWAY and I never played with the MK 8 again.
