MOORE- John W. age 84 a 30year resident of Highland NY passed away at his home in Kingston NY Friday August 28 2009. Born December 2 1924 in Quincy MA Mr. Moore married Helen-Elaine Farrell MacLean also of Quincy MA on December 12 1942 while he was serving in the submarine forces of the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Moore devoted his life to the service of his country and to a strong belief in the value of education. After graduating from Boston University he began his career in education in 1951 as an elementary school teacher in Greenwich CT. He taught in several school systems in NY and then became a teacher with the Job Corps in Fall River MA in 1965. He later became an administrator for the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) in Rockland County NY and retired in 1984.That same year he and his wife joined the Peace Corps where they spent six years teaching in Liberia and two years in Belize.  Mr. Moore was also active in sports all his life. He was a college ice hockey referee and became the Commissioner of the Mid-Hudson High School Hockey League in 1977. He is survived by his wife Helen-Elaine of Kingston NY his son Dennis Moore of New Paltz NY his daughter Erin Fallanca of Kingston NY two granddaughters and one great-grandson. A memorial service will be held graveside at the Highland Cemetery on Thursday September 3 2009.
