I have image of the USS H-3 torpedo room as my wallpaper and got to wondering what the scale was. In the left rear can be seen a wash stand for the officers. It has fold out basin and mirror on top for shaving and grooming functions. So how large was the compartment anyway? Using an estimation of 6 feet for the cabinet height I found a photo of Nimitz as an ensign so it would look period and I did a rough cutout of him and pasted it in. If he were to turn around and walk the approximate 5 feet back to the stand I think the scale would be correct. What do you think?

I've got some scale drawings of the H boats (etal) buried around here that should help with the measurements. I've been digging out out this stuff to take down south and know they're here someplace - give me a bit and I'll find them (hopefully)

Looks like virtually nothing going thru compartment bulkhead except comp. pressure lines. And the two stations on right side, what are they for? Really bizare shot on a submarine if you ask me. Much simpler boats for sure but probably most is behind the paneling and lockers on both sides of the compartment. The two stanchions are for torpedoes, (torpedo loading hatch can be seen in the overhead), What ever was in the tubes and 4 reloads it looks like. Go to http://www.pigboats.com/subs/h-boats.html for more interior shots.

If I could have found another full length image I may have used that.
