At random: "I saw the submariners, the way they stood aloof and silent, watching their pigboat with loving eyes. They are alone in the Navy. I admired the PT boys. And I often wondered how the aviators had the courage to go out day after day and I forgave their boasting. But the submariners! In the entire fleet they stand apart!” -- James Michener

While copying the Tusk crew list from my site to decklog, already listed was the name of a FTGSA sailor aboard her in 1962 along with a phone number. I called and it turns out that lowly nonqual E-2 made good...real good. Sam Rayburn commissioning crew and later CDR Tom Czulewicz.

I enjoy twisting others tails about interservice, sub/surface/air issues, and inter boat issues. I do not thing the post was intended as anything other than a burr under the saddle. But, just to set the record strait, I served with TOM when he was a first class. He was the sharpest technician you could ask for, and I would stack him up against any ten in the navy. I was fortunate, Tom and R Grabowski (spelling?) were in the same division, making the entire navy lopsided in talent.

I am not trying to start anything, just making sure a great sailor is recognized as such.

You read my "twist" correctly. It was made with respect for an outstanding career.
