Jack W. McGill, age 66, of Elk Rapids, died on Friday, June 26, 2009. Jack was born on November 22, 1942, in Newton Falls, Ohio, the son of Arthur and Sue McGill. He was raised with four brothers and two sisters. Jack graduated from Newton Falls High School and later served in the United States Navy on a submarine. Following his service, he started his career in painting. On August 27, 1988, he married Rosemary McGee. Jack is survived by his children, Kimberly (Ola) Walker-Hausel and Karl (Stephanie) McGill; two grandchildren, Heather and Brenna; brothers, Richard, Jim, Ed and Chuck; and sisters, Pat and Bonnie. Jack's wife, Rosemary McGill, passed away in 1990. A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Edward J. Donovan, 85, passed away June 24, 2009. Born June 23, 1924 in Erickson, Nebraska to Joseph and Nellie Gray Donovan, Edward was the oldest of seven children. He had two brothers and four sisters. The family moved to Yakima, Washington during the Great Depression. Ed joined the Navy and trained for submarine service during World War II. He served in the Pacific around the Sea of Japan. He went to Seattle University, where he studied dentistry but was not happy with that. He found his wife, Marilyn, instead. They married in January 1951. They had three children, Greg, Elaine and Nancy. Ed started in real estate after marriage but moved on to become a salesman for hardware and millwork, direct to the builders. He enjoyed his work. They lived in Seattle, WA, for a time. They moved to Bellevue, WA, for 18 years. In 1975, they moved to Camano Island, WA, where they lived for 28 years, eventually retiring to Smokey Point, Marysville, WA. Ed was a member of the Kirkland - Bellevue Elks Club, serving in the officers chairs. Ed is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his three children, Greg (Kathy), Elaine, and Nancy (Stephen); three grandchildren, Monique, Jeff and Patrick; and three sisters, Margaret, Helen and Sister Lenora. His other siblings passed on before him. There will be no services. A memorial will be decided at a later date.
