At random: The USS Blenny SS 324, on her last patrol of WW II sank 63 vessels. One by torpedo and 62 by deck gunfire, demolition charges set by boarding parties or by burning. On several occasions shotguns were fired through the boats bottoms. These were all vessels under the 500 ton JANAC limit for tonnage sunk and not counted in the "official" totals or ships sunk. This is also a record for the most vessels ever sunk by a submarine on one patrol.

Our Shipmate MIKE BACHMAN - MM3(SS) 1964-66 passed away suddenly on May 19, 2009.

Mike was a member of a number of USSVI Bases in Southern NJ and our SS-407Association from it's inception in 1999.  We will TRULY miss him.  It was an honor to serve with Mike.  A very sad day for all of us here.

Pictured above is a recent Dolphin Ceremony where Mike proudly pinned his Dolphins earned aboard Sea Robin, on the chest of his equally proud grandson Steven Shea MM3(SS) serving aboard USS Virginia.

Sailor, Rest Your Oar.
