HOFFMAN, Robert W., 82, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham. Bob was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Chicago, the son of Harold and Margaret (Macey) Hoffman. He married Bernadean (Belcher) in 1948 in Patoka. He was a Navy man and proudly served on the submarine USS Queenfish (SS-393), during World War II. He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University and received his master's degree from University of Illinois. He became a teacher and later a school administrator in Newton for 29 years. He was active in the community as a Boy Scouts leader, served on the welfare board and numerous committees and programs at school. Bob was a Mason at Newton Masonic Lodge 216, belonged to Consistry of Danville, Shriners of East St. Louis, Effingham American Legion Post 120 and Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham. Bob and Bernie had three children, David, Brenda and Lori. Bob is survived by his wife, Bernie of Effingham; daughters, Brenda (Mike) Schoppe of Oswego and Lori Hess of Effingham; former daughter-in-law, Kathy (Danny) Fidler of Decatur and their daughter, Shelby; grandchildren, Brandy Ealy, Nikki (Ryan) Clemens, Jenna, Ryan and Erica Schoppe, Kristin Fleming (fiance, David Hall); and great-grandchildren, Ava, Brady, Riley and Trae. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son David Robert Hoffman. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Chapel, Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Effingham, with military rites. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. HERVEY, Sr., James Robert, 86, of North Fort Myers, FL died Monday, April 27, 2009. He was born March 3, 1923 in Astoria, NY. He is a Navy veteran of WWII, serving on the submarine USS Bang (SS-385). He is a retired member of the Nassau County Police Department of New York. James is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Joanne, his son James Jr., his daughters Kathleen Hervey and Elaine Martorana, grandchildren Denise, Joseph and James Martorana. RIPPE, Edward A., 84, of Highland, IN passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009. Edward was a founding member of St. James Catholic Church. He was a retired General Foreman from Inland Steel with 39 years of service. Ed was a proud Navy veteran of WWII having served on the submarine USS Thresher (SS-200). He was a member of American Legion Post #232, Sub Vets of WWII and was a graduate of Valparaiso University. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Iris; two sons: Paul (Janalee) Rippe and Robert Rippe; two daughters: Andrea Olivotto and Nancy Rippe; grandchildren: Jesse (Melissa) Rippe, Keith Turpin, Kelly Turpin, Paul J. Rippe and Ian Rippe; great granddaughters: Taylor and Sydney Rippe; brother, Eugene (Delores) Rzepczynski; sister, Dolores Jelenski; brother- in-law, Frank Hanak; sister-in- law, Jean Mick; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents: Peter and Mary Rzepczynski; sisters: Vicki, Mary and Judy; brother-in-law, Lee Mick; and sons-in-law: Clifford Turpin and Louis Olivotto. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2009 DIRECTLY at St. James Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave., Highland, IN. Mr. Rippe will lie in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Keith Virus officiating. Cremation to follow with final resting at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, May 1, 2009 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the Solan- Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave. (corner of Main and Kennedy Ave.), Schererville. Memorials are preferred.

GREENSON, Roy A., 80, of Aquidneck Place, Portsmouth, RI, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. Born in Boston, MA on February 2, 1929, he was the son of the late Harold and Ellen (Livingstone) Greenson. Mr. Greenson grew up in Nova Scotia, Canada and joined the United States Navy serving on a submarine. After his military service he graduated from Northeastern University in 1957 with a BA degree. Mr. Greenson worked as an Insurance Broker for Boston Mutual for most of his career and after his retirement he moved to Florida where he enjoyed traveling and sailing out of Palm Beach, FL. He was an active member of the Fairhaven Improvement Association in Massachusetts and also past president, and was also a member of the Fairhaven Rotary Club and St. Joseph's Church in Fairhaven, MA. He was the husband of the late Barbara (Padelford) Greenson. He is survived by his sons, Alexander Greenson, Bruce Greenson-Freedman and Allan Greenson, all of Florida; his daughter, Moira Greenson of Portsmouth, RI; his brother, John Greenson of Ontario, Canada; and four grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Paula Greenson. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2009, at 11 a.m., in Riverside Cemetery, 274 Main Street, Fairhaven, MA. Donations in his memory may be made to the Fairhaven Rotary Scholarship Fund, Huttleston House, P.O. Box D12, Fairhaven, MA 02719. HOF, Gary R. "Guido", 67, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at his residence after a courageous fight against multiple myeloma. Gary was born Monday, February 2, 1942, in Sheldon, Iowa, to Wilbur and Hazel Elaine (Potter) Hof. On September 20, 1976, he married Melody Ann Rice "his bride" in Boulder, Colo. She survives and is of Carbondale. He served his country in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service from 1961 until his retirement as a Master Chief Torpedoman in 1983. He was a member of the Retired Submarine Service and Stone Creek Golf Course. Survivors include his father and his wife, Wilbur and Shirley Hof of Sioux City, Iowa; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Reed and Linda Keegan of Port St. Lucie, Fla. and Michael Hof of Carbondale; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kelli Ann and Rick Thiele and Keri Lynn Hof, all of Jupiter, Fla.; five grandchildren; one brother, Galen Travis Hof of Sioux City, Iowa.; and two sisters, Jane Elaine Hof and Mildred Jo McCullough, both of Boulder, Colo. He was preceded in death by his mother. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, in Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, with the Rev. Danny Boyd officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Carbondale Community High School Athletic Department, the Hospice of Southern Illinois, or to the donor's preferred recipient and will be accepted by the funeral home.
