At random: "The Turkish skipper of ex-USS Tang, when asked about the difference between the German designed and built replacement boats for their retiring ex-US boats, is reported to have said, "American submarines are built for war, German submarines are built for export."

It is with sadness I report that Ltjg William E Mckinney went on Eternal Patrol April 24, 2009 after a long illness. He qualified on the USS STERLET SS392 serving on board from 62-64 and then was a plankowner on the Daniel Boone SSBN 629B. He will be honored during the "Tolling of the Bells" ceremony during the Sterlet reunion in Branson Mo. Oct 2009. He was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point in 1959 and married his wife of 49 years Elizabeth in August 1959. He has a son William Jr and daughter Kathleen. Our prayers and comfort are with the family. "Attention on Deck" LTJG WILLIAM MC KINNEY has assumed the Watch as he enters his "Eternal Patrol". Sailor Rest Your Oars.

Bill McKinney was my Weapons Officer on Daniel Boone in '66.
Sailor, rest your oar.
