Subject: Strange associations on Apr. 12th 1861

Edwin Ruffin fired the first shot of the Civil war at Fort Sumpter South Carolina. The commander of the battery which fired at Fort Sumpter was Pierre Toutant Bouregarde who, as a West Point cadet graduate, was asked by Major Anderson, the commanding officer of West Point, to stay and teach artillary to the cadets.
He remained at West Point for a year. Anderson was the commanding officer at Fort Sumter when the first shots were fired that began the Civil War.
