BOOTH, Robert L., 75, died Monday, 6 April 2009 at Haven Health Care of Norwich. Born in Carroll, Iowa on May 9, 1933, he was the son of the late Harry and Faye (Ladorna) Booth. Robert qualified submarines in 1953 aboard the USS SIRAGO (SS-485). He also served on the USS TRUTTA (SS-421) and USS ROCK (SS-274). Robert was a veteran of the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Machinist Mate First Class. After his naval career, he was a teacher at the Norwich Regional Technical School. He served on the Norwich City Council and many other public and civic service organizations. Robert joined USSVI Groton Base in 2004 and he was a Life and Holland Club member. On October 26, 1957 at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, he was united in marriage to Marjorie (Meyer) Booth who survives him along with one daughter Stephanie (Darrell) Mattos of Norwich, and three granddaughters, Mary Conley, and Alisha and Hannah Mattos. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the First Baptist Church, 239 West Main St., Norwich with interment of his cremains to follow with Military Honors in Maplewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to either First Baptist Church, 239 West Main St., Norwich, CT. 06360 or to Beacon Hospice, Inc., 12 Roosevelt Ave., Mystic, CT. 06355.
