MARKHAM, Thomas P., 87, of Hampstead N.H. and former longtime Andover resident died Friday, March 27, 2009 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry N.H. Thomas was born in Haverhill on June 3,1921 to the late George Albert and Julia Angela (Russell) Markham. He graduated Haverhill parochial schools and graduated from St. James High School. He was also a graduate of Newman Preparatory School as well as receiving his B.A. from Boston University and his degree in physics from M.I.T. Thomas served in the US Navy during World War II as a radio operator and served aboard the submarine USS Tambor (SS-198). He was employed as a research physicist with the Air Force Cambridge Research Labs at Hanscom Air Force Base until his retirement. During his career he published several papers in physics. Thomas studied upper atmosphere phenomenon including the Aura Borealis as well as solar and lunar eclipses. His specialty was spectrometry. An avid reader Thomas loved novels, photography and loved the ocean especially at Ogunquit, Maine. Thomas was married for 60 wonderful years to the love of his life Lorna Pearl (Cogswell) Markham until her death in 2006. Together they shared a strong, loving and incredible relationship. He is survived by his two daughters Andrea Pinkham of Hampstead, N.H. and Barbara Kosma and her husband John of Santa Cruz, Calif., his four sons Fredrick Markham of Cutchogue, N.Y.and Jeffrey Markham and his wife Lisa of Salem., Thomas Markham Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Lancaster. and Kurt Markham of Lowell. Thomas was predeceased by his son Gregory Markham. Also among his survivors are his 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. GOODNER, Jack Kenneth, 75, of Danville passed away Friday, March 27, 2009, at the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System, Danville. He was born in Danville on August 14, 1933, the son of Kenneth E Goodner and Hazel E. (Swisher) Goodner. Jack was a graduate of Danville High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War and served as a submariner. He previously owned his own real estate office, Land Office Realty, and retired from the Operations Department at the University of Illinois in 1998. Jack was a member of the American Legion Post #210 and a member of the Danville Barbershop Chorus for many years. He previously served on the Vermilion County War Museum Board and served as a golf ranger at Harrison Park Golf Course. Jack loved to play golf and ride his motorcycle. The essence of Jack's life was showing love to his family and friends through random acts of humor, wit, words and song. It wasn't uncommon to find an old treasured family photo in the mail from him or a small gift tucked beside our dinner plate at one of our many family gatherings. Jack married JoAnn Taylor on Jan. 30, 1959, in Georgetown, Ill. She survives. Other survivors include his two children, Todd (Lisa) Goodner of Oakwood and Lu Ann (Jack) Picklap, of Danville; grandchildren, Travis and Mason Goodner and Jeff and Kristen Picklap; one sister, Mary (Harry) Shepherd of Danville; one brother, Melvin Goodner of Danville; one sister-in-law, Mary (Gene) Morrow; very special nieces and nephews; and three special friends, Leo Downing, Don Smith and Jim Swisher. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eugene Goodner; and one infant sister, Marie. A celebration of life for Jack will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2009, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., with Pastor Jim Russell officiating. Burial will be in Johnson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Jack's name to the Alzheimer's Unit at the veteran's hospital, American Legion Post #210 or the Vermilion County War Museum.
