At random: George Washington Endorsed the use of the first American submarine, David Bushnell's TURTLE, during the Revolution. Following the vessel's attack on a British man-of-war, he discussed the potential use of submarines in a letter to Thomas Jefferson.

That was the bottom directional sign on the stack of them.

I'd guess 'FLEET M
-something S-something A-something E-something GROUP', but then what do I know?

I can barely remember putting in there briefly during Seahorse's shakedown cruise - I think mainly to refresh stores and pick up mail; I don't even remember getting off the boat.

BTW John, our plans have changed again (we had to put a big chunk of our savings out on a new roof - canceling our trip to the Med) and we will be attending the 2009 convention. I will be glad to spell you occasionally at the table. I will also be working the LIB (restoration) table, attending some of the meetings I am interested in and doing some of the recreational things with my wife and alone (golf tournament.) But I plan on finding time to help you out and seeing you and Dan again.

Great on San Diego Sean, sorry 'bout the cruise "however" I don't think you'll be worked too hard around Dan and me - usually the toughest thing is to quit laughing long enough and remember to breath!

It looks like it was taken on the cruise, but what's the story on the photo?

On the cruise, at the glacier, when everyone was invited to the bow for a group photo.  Once there we were all told to point at the glacier.  I was sitting front row, middle and the guy next to me took that moment to say hi!  The two AA Travel gals are behind me (holding me up?)...

Ah, yes. Reminds me of the Battle of Rosey Roads in mid-1967, wherein the valiant group from USS Ray were beset by Shore Patrol, the Marine Barracks, part of a helicopter squadron and god knows what else.

The story is here:
