CLARK, William Gordon "Willie" was born in Vicksburg, MS January 26, 1947 and died unexpectedly January 13, 2009. Preceded in death by father, William H. Clark and survived by mother, Doreen M. Clark of Richardson, TX. Willie lived all his life in Richardson from the age of six except for 4 years when he served on a US Navy Nuclear Submarine during the Vietnam War. He is remembered by many friends for his beautiful gift of art and for his love of animals and nature.

BAKER, Blayne Stanley, died peacefully the night of January 20, 2009 succumbing to a nine month battle with cancer. He was 85 years old. He graduated from UCSB in 1950 after serving on a submarine during WWII (where he lost his hair). He lived and worked much of his life in Los Angeles and later Carlsbad, CA. Stan and his wife Marilynn returned to Santa Barbara in 1998 where he lived until his passing. He leaves behind his wife, Marilynn Baker; sons, Dennis Baker, MD (Stephanie) of Santa Barbara and Gary Baker (Robin) of Agoura Hills; stepson Mark Wolfson, MD (Kathy) of Tucson, AZ; and stepdaughter Lisa Wolfson-Akcay (Ahmet) of San Mateo. Stan will always be "Papa" to Amelia, Molly, Lauren, and Henry Baker, Ryan and Mia Wolfson and Cameron and Dylan Akcay. In passing, he joins his father Harry Baker and his mother, Janet Blach, also of Santa Barbara.

RAY, Clifton R., on 1/18/2009 the Lord took him from his earthly bonds, to join our mother in heaven. They will laugh, love, and dance as they did when their bodies were young and healthy Our Dad was born7/22/24. Dad was a proud American. He was in the Navy and on a submarine in WWII. Dad was an avid voter and would scold those who did not. Dad retired from the San Bernardino Santa Fe Railroad. He was a Machinist there. He was a teacher and supporter of many that needed financial aid as well as guidance. He always shared his knowledge of auto mechanics as well as his tools and his home. His family will miss him: his brother, Charles Ray; daughters, Mary Trombi, Connie Allen, Evelyn Duke; son, Robert Ray; so ns in law, Richard Trombi, Chris Allen, Mark Duke; Grandchildren, Ken Trombi, Deanna Trombi Lee, Tiffany Woodruff, Cody Allen, Courtney Allen, Kristen Duke, Mark Duke, Great Grandchildren, Douglas Trombi, Jaquelyn Trombi. Special thanks to Kris Pray and Gary Maune for the loving care given to our dad. It became a 24 hour a day 7 days a week job. Graveside Service: Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at Riverside National Cemetery, 12:45, Cemetery staging area #4.

DARTT, Leland Stanley, 81, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., formerly of Essex Junction, Vt., passed away Friday, January 23, 2009. Lee was born on May 10, 1927, in Hinesburg, Vt.; the son of the late Stanley and Mable Dartt. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Merritt and Donald; and a grandchild, Michelle Dartt. Lee is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara (Machado) Dartt; his children Sandra and (Stephen) Lawrence of Essex Junction, Vt., and Stephen and (Pamela) Dartt of Milton, Vt. Lee has three grandchildren, Paul Dartt, Melissa Hayden, and Keith Lawrence; four great-grandchildren, Aiden and Colin Lawrence, and Madelyn and Dylan Hayden; two sistersin-law, Shirley Call and Paula Machado; and many nieces and nephews. Lee graduated from Cathedral High School in Burlinton, Vt., then proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in World War II Submarine Service. Lee's gift for sales led him to a career with State Farm Insurance for 30 years. He was past president of 3rd and 4th degrees with the Knights of Columbus, Rotary President, and member of American Legion in VT. Lee's passion was golf; and he was able to play to the end. Lee had many friends who meant a lot to him. Lee was a loving husband, cherished father, and grandfather, but without a doubt, his most recent joy in his life were his great-grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m., in St. Raphael Catholic Church in Lehigh Acres, Fla. A funeral Mass and burial will be held in Essex Junction at a later date at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Farley Funeral Home, 1100 Lee Blvd, Lehigh Acres, FL 33936. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Ft. Myers, FL 33908, or St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2514 Lee Blvd., Lehigh Acres, FL 33971.

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Sally Ann Haas Axene, 86, of Azalea Trace, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at a local hospital. She was born June 5, 1922, in Minneapolis, Minn., the youngest daughter of Ralph and Eleanor Haas, growing up in Columbus, Ohio. Sally graduated in June 1941 from Upper Arlington High School, Upper Arlington, Ohio. She met, through mutual friends, and married her high school sweetheart, recently deceased Rear Admiral Dean Lane Axene, 85, on June 7, 1944, the same day Dean graduated from the United States Naval Academy as a commissioned Ensign in the United States Navy. Married 64 years, Sally, while supportive of naval tradition and responsibility, found service life a challenge, enjoying the travel and the people! She truly loved her two Tennessee Walking horses, several Afghan Hounds and a cat or two or three! Always the animal lover, Sally also enjoyed birds and fish, and was an avid gardener, artist, interior designer, craftsman, flower arranger, sewer, golfer, tennis player, enjoyed sailing and music. Her passion ... an accomplished needlework artist, highly trained in many disciplines! Being a submariner's wife for a large part of her husband's career, Sally excelled with hardships such as deaths, sick children, broken heaters and everyday life issues not only stateside, but also at Pearl Harbor on Oahu, Hawaii. Sally is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eric Christopher and Janet Axene of New Albany, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Kristen Axene Wenning and Ronald Wenning of Lewisburg, Pa.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, David Axene and wife Jana of Hilton head Island, S.C.; and sister-in-law, Dareth Axene Gerlach of Upper Arlington, Ohio. She was preceded in death by one sister, June Haas Remmers. A memorial service and celebration of Sally and Rear Admiral Axene's lives will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at the Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel with inurnment to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Sally Ann Haas Axene and Rear Admiral Dean Lane Axene. Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, Pensacola, is in charge of the arrangements.
