Thank you Sid. We kinda think a lot of him down here in Virginia.
Matter of fact, we rank Stonewall right up there with Marsh Robert as being the two greatest Americans that ever lived.
Last Friday was a state holiday: Lee-Jackson Day.

Could you imagine this Country naming a Boat RE Lee or Stonewall Jackson today??? Not a chance.
I was always surprised that the only Union General with a Boat named for him was Grant.. Hell Sherman and Hancock were more deserving that honor than Grant was.
I rode the Lee she was a good Boat and funny thing was the Yankees on that boat were greatly outnumbered especially us New Englanders.. I wonder if it was just coincidence.

Smiley , we still have a lot of military bases and highways named for Confederate generals down here. My take on it is that the PC crowd is too ignorant (or shall I say nieve) of history to know what the name Bragg, Pope, Armistead, Pickett, Hill or Hood or the like means.

I have noted that here in Georgia they raised Holy Heck about the State Flag. However, they never said a word about Confederate Memorial Day and Lee's Birthday being State holidays. I guess too many people of color enjoy the paid days off, and their principles don't get offended like the flag offended them. Just wonder where the line really is. As many of those I taught with carried on royally about the old State Flag. Yet never mentioned the two holidays.

How about the Coast Guard cutter by the Torsk?  The TANEY?  Named for the chief justice of the Supreme Court which produced the Dred Scott decision....  Whew!

Walt,
Ya'll got Confederate Memorial Day? Wow. We tried for years just to get our county supervisors to adopt it, but to no avail. Although we did get one small town to adopt it.

Walen,
I didn't realize who Taney was. A rather dubious heritage, I would say (evan as a totally unreconstruced Confederate). That would never happen nowadays. He musta done something great for the CG. It is like the old pork barrel Corps of Engineers reservoirs.... it was the way a Congressman could buy his way into posterity to get a new reservoir named after him.

All ya gotta do, Curt, is go down to the Stonewall Inn.  Of course, you might loose more than your left arm there....
