Subject: Computer question

Please 'splain something to a total idiot :
Why is it that a lot of the websites that Ya'll put up won't download for me? I just get the message "done" on the bottom of the screen. Is it because my firewall won't allow it to load?
Is there any way to temporarily bypass the firewall so I can let it download?
