At random: "I don't know why we have to be down here on this hold down exercise(at the 60th hour). Hell, I went through this on the Thresher (SS 200) during WW ll with a Nip Sea Going Tug hooked onto our screw guards, trying to lift our butts out of the water. They didn't get us then, and these Tin Cans (ours) ain't going to get us now." -- "Hambone" Hamilton SD1 (SS). "Hambone" made 13 war patrols on USS Remora, SS-487, uttered these words in July 1957 during a hold down exercise off Kobe Japan.

March 17th and Warshot's burial is fast approaching. Now might be a good time to make some plans. Steamboat and I will be there and I'm sure Ric will also if he can dig out of the snow and float a boat. Blue is making plans and I believe JrKrup is also. I know there are many more. Can we see a show of hands? Raise your hands high. My eye sight isn't what it use to be. Ahhhhh, maybe I shouldn't have said that about my eyes since Steamboat and I will be sharing a ride/driving.
It would be great to see a lot of SubVets there with their vests, etc.

I am planning on attending and I think that MadDog is riding with me, work is pretty hecktic right now and I am going to try to get a couple of days off for the celebration of Ron's life/reunion of old friends and finally meeting some of those whom I have known for years but never met.

This "NQP" will be there, with a vest on, too...and if any other of you gentlemen have wives or significant others in SubVettes, it would be good to see them there, too.

We may be sending "carrier pigeons" for Ric, if they don't get the roads cleared up!!!

Yes, I should be there, just trying to finalise the plans with Kathy's plans and then I shall book a flight.

Blue *_*

PS. We don't have 'vests', but I will bring along my Dolphins and Medals and wear them.
PPS. Oh, Kathy wont be there due to other commitments.

I should be available the entire day.. if work allows me the day off. Planning on either calling in sick (if I don't have paid time off - blew all that and then some when I went to South Africa last year) and would be willing to drive a bunch of people.. will keep all informed.

Jim, I don't know if your familiar with the area, but do you know what gate we have to enter through. I'll be heading down with John Wynn and there are numerous gates to get lost in. I remember after we found the correct gate we had to exit the car while it was searched, checked us out and then was allowed to proceed. The security people are not military....BTW!

Depends on where it is..if it's the Old Post Chapel, then it's one of the gates off Fort Myer. If you're just going to the inurnment at one of the Columbariums, then you'd have to stop in the Visitor's Center, get a vehicle pass, then go in Memorial Drive, through the main gate into the cemetery.

I'm sure more info will be coming out as to where/when as the day get's closer..
