At random: Leonardo da Vinci, the Florentine Renaissance inventor and artist, developed plans for an underwater warship but kept them secret. He was afraid that it would make war even more frightful than it already was.

Subject: Learned something about my family today

Got an email from my cousin Ingmar in Finland who is doing a family genealogy.
I learned the names of my great grand parents on my mothers side that I had not known before.

Anna Brita Henriksdotter Roukus
born 05.09.1857 in Kimo/Oravais, Finland (5th of september)
died 03.03.1917
married 23.11.1877 with miller Johan Johansson Roukus
born 27.01.1856 in Kimo, Finland
died 12.08.1917

Also the name of my older sister who died very shortly after birth. This was before my brother was born three years later. I was born 8 years later.

Kristina Hulda Hedman b03.09.1935 in Oakland, Ca. died

I have never really been interested in Genealogy before but I know some have a passion for it. I have a friend who traced his family back to circa 1200 in England.

When I visited Finland in the mid 70's I met close to 400 relatives. It might be a possibility you could be right.

My wife emigrated from Gamlekarleby Finland when she was five. At that time, she could speak both Finnish and Swedish. Within three months she added English.

Don, Stina and I have watched “Fire and Ice” many times. Thanks again for sending it to us. Stina wants to send copies to all her brothers and sisters, since that war was so pivotal in shaping their Dad’s life. Do you know how to order originals? I’ve searched the web to no avail.

By the way, I like your tag line. I've shown it to Stina, and she concurs.

“Fire and Ice”? is that about the 1939/40 war?
My cousin Einar was in that and took a Russian bullet in the face. Entered his right eye, exited through his chin and went through his left shoulder and out his armpit. The Finns stopped the Russians at Suomussalmi. I've walked at battlefield and seen the huge mounds in the woods wheree all the Russians are buried. 50 to a grave mound. Lots sof mounds. I need to find my photos of that. You can still run your hands across the ground and pick up brass everywhere.

Fire and Ice is about the Russian-Finish War. I heartily recommend it.
