Subject: Met Another Boat Sailor

The father of Eileen's boss passed away and off we went to the wake.

Now the deceased, Bob Mc Cartney, wanted people to come to his wake and talk about the good times; so, there was lots of story telling and light laughter in the room.

At the wake, I met this guy Pete Chisick who was on the USS Carp in the late 1950's. My wife's boss introduced us by saying "this fellow was on a submarine also".

We talked about the submarine life and the experience. He told me how he was not sure if subs were for him but by the time he qualified, he loved his boat.

But, the interesting part to me was how he talked about the Polaris boats in the future tense because they were only entering the fleet when he was getting out.

He told me that they were actively recruiting guys like him to go back to school and become a polaris or nuke sailor.

He had some pretty interesting stories to tell about the Northern Pacific.

It is always good to speak with a boat sailor.
