BELKOWSKI, Sr., Robert Anthony, 83, died Thursday, December 25, 2008, at his residence in Woodbridge, NJ. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Woodbridge for the past 61 years. Mr. Belkowski was employed as a supervisor with Milton Can Co. in Elizabeth for 15 years before retiring 23 years ago. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served aboard the USS Bergall, a submarine in the South Pacific. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church in Woodbridge and belonged to T. Nulty Post 477 American Legion in Iselin, and the Submarine Veterans of World War II. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ethel Leffler Belkowski; two sons, Robert A. Belkowski Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Newport News, Va., and Thomas A. Belkowski of Woodbridge; a brother, Arthur V. Belkowski and his wife, Mary, of Hamilton Square; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green St., Woodbridge, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at St. James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Cremation will be private. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Submarine Veterans of World War II, c/o Mr. Basil Kio, 22 Glenbourne Drive, Boonton, NJ 07005.

HOLLEY, Sr., James Alfred, 91, of Fort Walton Beach, FL, passed away Friday, December 26, 2008, in a local nursing home. He was born on October 23, 1917, in Point Washington, FL, to Perry T. and Nela Carmichael Holley. He was a lifetime resident of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and the eldest of three children. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II submarine service. He was a 32nd degree Mason and retired from civil service at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. He was also a deacon at First Presbyterian Church, Fort Walton Beach. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Yvonne Becker Holley of Fort Walton Beach; son, Al Holley and wife Esther of Shalimar, FL; daughter, Gwen Spence and husband Delbert of DeFuniak Springs, FL; grandchildren, Jimmy Holley and wife Marina, Lori Holley, Roy L. Jones IV and wife Lisa; and great-grandchildren, Clayton and Madison Jones. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 29, at McLaughlin Mortuary at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 101 Hart St., Niceville, FL 32578. McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave. S.E., Fort Walton Beach, is entrusted with arrangements.

MATTHEWS, Joe, 82, died on December 24, 2008 in Mansfield, Louisiana. Joe was born July 15, 1926 in Bienville Parish, Louisiana to Joseph and Vera Matthews. Joe graduated Logansport High School in 1943. He was an active member of the Logansport First United Methodist Church. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII in the submarine unit. He was very active in many local community groups. He served as president of both the Logansport Lions Club and Logansport Chamber of Commerce as well as chairman of the River City Fest. As a member of the Mount Vernon Lodge #83, Joe was able to reach the level of Master Mason and was also a member of the Lodge in Joaquin, Texas. Also, during his time in this community he served on many volunteer boards including the 911 Board and the Tourism Board. Joe and Helen spent a great deal of their married life in Galveston, Texas. While there he was able to help with the Boy Scouts by serving as Scout Master and also a Little League Coach. While in Galveston, Texas he worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company were he retired as Chief Engineer after 38 years. Joe was preceded in death by his parents. Left behind are his wife of 59 years Helen Matthews; three sons Joe Matthews, Bill Matthews and Dan Matthews and wife Debbie and their son John; one daughter Joellen Wilke.The family would like to express a special and heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of DeSoto Retirement and Rehabilitation Center in Mansfield, Louisiana. Masonic graveside service will be held Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Cool Spring Cemetery. RAND, Warren M., 82, of West Boylston died Wednesday December 24, 2008. He was born in West Boylston son of Edwin and Hildur Rand and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII, serving in the Submarine Service in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Rand was Vice President and General Manager of New England Telephone Company for 36 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was a former member of the Telephone Workers Union. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Eva R. (LaComfora) Rand, a daughter, Charlene A. Weisel of Toronto, Canada; a sister, Doris M. Baehr of Hooksett, NH; two grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew and many nieces and nephews. A sister, Jean E. Morein, predeceased him. A Graveside Service will be held Sun., Dec. 28 at 11 AM in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Odd Fellows Nursing Home, 104 Randolph Rd., Worcester, 01606.
