RICHARD, Raymond, 83, passed away on November 14, 2008 at his home in Fleet Landing, FL. He was born in Holyoke, MA on June 20, 1925 to Mary and Fernand A. Richard. Raymond began his naval career in 1943 and retired in July 1970 as a Lt. Commander. After 26 years of military service, he stayed active in the U.S. Submarine Veterans, Military Officers Association of America, Naval Mine Warfare Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post 316. He and his family lived in Wauwatosa, WI for ten years before finally fulfilling his dream in 1998 by moving to Jacksonville, FL to be closer to his only two grandchildren. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Bessie Richard, and his son, Gary Alan Richard. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Barsamian and son-in-law, Dr. James G. Barsamian of Ponte Vedra Beach; grandchildren, Jarrod Richard and Alyssa Blaze, students at Louisiana State University; son, Timothy Richard and daughter-in-law, Kim Richard of Hickory Creek, TX; and daughter-in-law, Donna J. Richard of Ponte Vedra Beach. A memorial service will be held at the American Legion Post 316, 1127 Atlantic Blvd., Atlantic Beach, FL, on Friday, November 21st at 2 p.m. with a special tribute by the Beaches Honor Guard with a reception to follow. Inurnment will take place at Ponte Vedra Valley at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Raymond's name to Community Hospice of NE Florida or to the Fleet Landing Foundation. "SAILOR, REST YOUR OARS". "HAND SALUTE", "TWO". I served on the USS Simon Lake (AS-33) with Ray. He was a great shipmate and a good bowler.
