GILLESPIE, Almon Dean, 80, died November 7, 2008. Born May 12, 1928 in Fillmore, UT. Married Ardell Swasey (Duchesne, UT) in the LDS Manti Temple, on July 22, 1954. Attended Millard High school. Served in the submarine division of the US Navy for five years. Played football for the US Navy and BYU. Graduated from BYU in 1957 in Mathematics and Education. He taught math for 27 years in Kamas, Kanab, Fillmore, and Davis County. Owned and operated Gillespie Electric in his spare time. He also served as a reserve police officer for Salt Lake City, UT for eight years. Preceded in death by his brother Omar, and two sons Almon David and Benjamin Locke. Survived by his wife Ardell; children DeeAn (Peter) Strub, Phoenix, AZ; Fern (Dennis) Stones, Taylorsville, UT; Suzan Mann, North Salt Lake, UT; Inez (Blaine) Thomas, West Jordan, UT; Elizabeth (Marc) Christensen, Bountiful, UT; Joseph (Misun) Gillespie, Phoenix, AZ; D'Nell Gillespie, Holladay, UT; and daughter-in-law Veronica (Chad) Pehrson; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brother Edward (Martha) Gaer, Kearns, UT and sister Alberta Smith, Fillmore,UT. Viewing: Thursday Evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Orchard 10th ward building 3317 S 800 W. Bountiful, UT 84010 and Friday Morning from 9:30-10: 30 a.m. at the Orchard 10th ward building 3317 S 800 W. Bountiful, UT 84010. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. at the Orchard 10th ward building 3317 S 800 W. Bountiful, UT 84010. There will be a special viewing Saturday from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Fillmore 1st ward building. Burial will be a 12:30 p.m. in the Fillmore City Cemetery.

HAMLIN, William Francis "Bill", 81, died after a long illness on November 6, 2008 at home with family present. Rosary Vigil will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008 at 7 p.m. at St John's Cathedral. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 at St John's Cathedral. Burial will be 12 p.m. at Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery with military honors. Services are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home. Bill was born March 25, 1927 to Edna Rose and Francis Charles Hamlin in Utica, New York. Bill joined the Navy during World War II and was on the submarine USS Redfish (SS-395) assigned for his tour in the Pacific Theater. Bill graduated from Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service. Upon Graduation, Bill returned to Upstate New York and worked for Syracuse University. He later joined Stromberg Carlson Corporation, General Dynamics' Telecommunication Division. He married Barbara Joan in 1956. Bill accepted a transfer and moved his wife and infant son to Boise, Idaho in 1961. Bill traveled all over the West for his work and had a special appreciation for the beautiful western landscape in Idaho. After their daughter was born, Bill and Barbara started their own telecommunication business. Later in his career, Bill worked for Morrison Knudsen stationed in Saudi Arabia. Bill was a fun loving person. He was an avid fisherman; fishing all over Idaho, New York, and Canada and he loved Deep Sea fishing. He also enjoyed golfing, camping, billiards and snooker. He was always reading and he was an outdoors-man. He loved his dogs but most of all Bill loved his family. Bill was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by Barbara; son, Craig; daughter, Susan (Dean) and four grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Meals On Wheels and the others who provided support during his illness. RUBIO, Salvador Hernandez, 72, passed away peacefully at his home on November 8, 2008 having lost his battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease. Sal was born in Madera, CA on March 21, 1936 where he lived until 1955. After graduating from Madera HS in 1955, he enlisted in the US Navy and served six years in the Atlantic and Pacific fleets aboard the USS Torsk (SS-423) submarine as a CPO & radio man & then the USN Reserves. He married Nancy James also of Madera and they had 4 children. The family settled in Modesto in 1960 & then moved to Hughson in 1963. Sal graduated from ModestoJr. College and went on to CalPoly San Luis Obispo were hemajored in Architectural Engineering. He was in business in Modesto for 45 years having owned several drafting and en- gineering firms; Viking Drafting & Engineering Universal Drafting & Engineering, and fi- nally R & D Drafting & Engineering. He retired in 2006 due to the progression of his disease. Sal also received his teaching credentials in 1970 from UC Berkeley at Stockton and taught Vocational Technical and Trade courses in Structural Steel Detailing at MJC and for the CA CETA program. He was recog- nized in 1983 by the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors for his services and contributions as a teacher and board member of the Private Industry Council (PIC). Salvador and Nancy divorced in 1979. He remarried in 1984 to Eileen Wilson of San Anselmo, CA. They have a daughter, Gabrielle Erin, 16 who resides in San Ramon, CA with her mother. He is survived by his 5 chil- dren; John Michael 49 of Riverside CA, Salina Michele 48 of Huntsville AL, Charles Mitchell 44 of Modesto CA, Amina Mari-Ann 43 of San Francisco CA, and Gabrielle Erin 16 of San Ramon CA. Four grandchildren; Taylor Brooke Rubio, 23 of San Luis Obispo CA also a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Seth Rubio, 18 who is attending Santa Barbara Community College, Daniil Michael Rubio, 4 of Riverside CA, and Coleman James Salvador Hawkins, 2 of Huntsville AL. He is also sur- vived by his siblings Blanche Hernandez of Fresno, Anastasia (Ann) Rubio of Modesto and Northridge, Frances Chapa of Madera, Richard Rubio of Fremont, and Paula Wolcott of Northridge CA. Sal's greatest passion in life was spending time with his fa- mily and sports. He loved all sports and if he wasn't watching the games he was attending them. He also enjoyed travel es- pecially along the Pacific Coast, Mexico and in 2004 he spent 3 weeks traveling throughout Spain to Madrid, Seville, Malaga and Nerja with his son and daughter-in-law, John Michael and Nicolette and daughter, Salina Michele tracing his family's roots. He requests in lieu of flowers that remembrances are made to Modesto Community Hospice 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto CA and The ALS Association Greater Bay Area Chapter, 565 Commercial Street, 2nd Flr, San Francisco, CA 94111. It is through their support, guidance, assistance and loving care that Sal was able to remain at home during the course of his disease. We are eternally gratefully for the existance of such organiza- tions and the amazing people who work there. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, November 12 at 11:00 AM at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel, 419 Scenic Drive, Modesto.
