At random: Insignia of the Navy's submarine service is a submarine flanked by two dolphins. Dolphins, or porpoises, the traditional attendants to Poseidon, Greek God of the Sea and patron deity of sailors, are symbolic of a calm sea, and are sometimes called the 'sailors' friend. In addition to the Dolphins, those World War II submariners who participated in successful combat patrols may wear the coveted Submarine Combat Insignia.

The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

WOLFE .. .. ..Gary Scot Wolfe, 72, of Bertrand, Nebraska passed away on March 13, 2024, in Overland Park, Kansas where he was loved and cared for by the staff of Garden Terrace.
He was born on November 10, 1951, in Lexington, Nebraska to Donald Francis Wolfe and Patricia (Stanford) O’Dell.
Gary graduated from Bear Creek High School in 1970 and entered the United States Navy in 1971. He was a machinist and attended Nuclear Engineering school while in the Navy and served on a submarine during the Vietnam War that traversed the world, taking him to places like Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1975.
On May 19, 1979, he was united in marriage to Kim (Fox) Anderson and to this union his daughters, Kiley and Erin were born. Gary and Kim later divorced. Gary was a devoted father to his girls, teaching them the value of hard work and shared with them his sense of humor and ability to tell stories. He was dedicated to supporting Kiley and Erin in all their endeavors throughout his entire life.
When Gary wasn’t traveling out to Wyoming with his dogs Spike and Sandy, you would find him attending Big Car Racing Events. He had a deep commitment and love of racing and played a key part in establishing the BCRA Hall of Fame in Nebraska. He would later write a book on the BCRA and be an integral part of bringing the history of the sport to life in Nebraska.
Gary loved to learn new things and was artistically talented. This led him to learn how to make Damascus knives, woodcarvings and complete beautiful scrimshaw pieces. Gary also loved the outdoors and spent a lot of his time hunting, fishing and camping.
Family was most important to Gary, and he had a very special place in his heart for his three grandsons. He ensured he never missed a chance to cheer them on at one of their events.
Left to mourn his passing are his two daughters, Kiley (Carmen) Sidman and Erin Gehrig; grandsons, Mitchell (Tyler) Gehrig, Spencer Gehrig and Jaxson Gehrig; brother, Brad Wolfe; sisters, Marcy (Craig) Stevens, Adeana (Tom) Rubenthaler, Melissa Wolfe and Dawn Warden; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and one sister.
Memorial Services will be held in June and burial with Military Honors will take place in Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.

LIM .. .. .. Ricardo ("Ric" and "Carding") Montilde Lim, 84, gently passed away on March 9, 2024. His last moments were spent with his beloved wife and daughter holding his hands while listening to a few of his favorite songs by The Bee Gees and his favorite 90s divas.
Ricardo was an adoring father and loving husband. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of nearly 50 years, Linda, and his daughter, Melinda. He is also survived by his cherished furry friends - Macy, his loyal Shih Tzu who he spoiled rotten and his grand-cat, Fizzy, who finally lounged in his lap a few days before he passed. He was thrilled.
Ricardo came from humble beginnings, growing up in Manila, Philippines before immigrating to the U.S. when he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1964. He went on to serve in the military for 24 years, mostly on submarines and then entered the civil service. If at any time during his life, he met a fellow member of the service, he loved to exchange stories and connect over a shared respect for the military and duty.
He loved being a father and it showed throughout his life. He constantly volunteered to chaperone his daughter's field trips, guide her through her algebra homework, and help out with classroom parties. Just a few days before he passed, he was proudly telling new folks he met that his daughter is a lawyer.
He loved many things - cooking while listening (and dancing) to The Bee Gees, telling stories that made everyone laugh, eating ice cream cake even when it wasn't his (or anyone's birthday) and taking Macy on walks to say hello to neighbors and their dogs.
But he loved his family the most. He is remembered for always reminding his wife and daughter of how much they meant to him and how much he loved the life they shared.
Ricardo survived a heart attack in his mid-forties and after a bypass surgery a few years later his doctors said he only had 10 years to live. That was nearly 40 years ago. And in that time he lived a life where each day he loved those around him and he got to be loved.
