KASTLE .. .. Raymond "Ray" Kastle Obituary .. .. Raymond Patrick Kastle (at birth named Raymond Patrick Tumeo), was born November 29, 1961 in Columbus Ohio, to Gay McBerty Tumeo and the late Anthony Raymond Tumeo. Ray Kastle, 62, peacefully passed away in his sleep December 18th, 2023 in Wagener, South Carolina.
Ray loved the outdoors and spent his childhood years in Galena Ohio hiking, fishing, and swimming with his 3 siblings (Faith Tumeo Chandler, Patrick Joseph Tumeo, and Steven Douglas Tumeo). During Ray's Junior year of high school, his mother remarried, he gained 3 new brothers (Robert Hoskinson, Michael Hoskinson, and Jim Hoskinson), and his whole family moved to Johnstown, Ohio.
Ray's lifelong best friend, Scott Ferko recalls that Ray was best known for teasing his family and friends and cracking jokes. He loved to make people laugh.
Ray Kastle was also known for his dedication to family, and friends. As a teenager, Ray became an Eagle Scout, pledging to do his best in all matters and he lived that oath. In 1981, Ray joined the United States Navy and served on the USS Narwhal (SSN-671). The Narwhal, a fast-attack submarine, is named after the narwhal, a unique artic whale with a unicorn-like tusk. The uniqueness of Ray Kastle matched the uniqueness of the Narwhal. Ray was a unicorn! He was a brilliant man with a big heart, big feet, and quirky fun personality. Ray spent 10 years in the US Navy, working in the engine room on nuclear submarines, and earned the rank of Petty Officer. When Ray left the military, he worked at 2 nuclear power plants. His second nuclear powerplant was near Allentown, Pennsylvania. This is the place where he met his true love.
On October 14, 2000, Raymond Patrick Tumeo married the love of his life, Dale Kastle, and changed his name to Raymond Patrick Kastle. Dale had a beautiful young daughter, Kathryne Anne OHare. Ray was ecstatic to become her father. Ray loved his family and was devoted to them through all of life's trials and tribulations. Ray also loved his animals. He was never without pets such as dogs, farm animals, and even llamas.
In search of a new career, Ray began his work at Merck as a Senior Engineer in Reliability. He later became the Associate Director, Maintenance Excellence at Merck. Ray Kastle authored several Publications in Pharma Manufacturing for his work in Risk, Reliability and Failure Coding. Ray genuinely loved his position at Merck as it allowed him to travel the world and still spend a lot of time with the wife Dale Kastle, that he loved so deeply. In all, Ray Kastle had 30 years' experience in maintenance, reliability, and projects in the military, commercial nuclear power, housing rehab, and the pharmaceutical industry.
Ray Kastle wanted people to have fun in life. He loved the game Dungeons & Dragons, a quintessential geek pastime. Using medieval characters and mythical creatures, he and his teenage friends conducted their adventures on a game board. As an adult, he continued D&D, and began attending Medieval Festivals dressed as a knight, with a sword and all. His collection of medieval swords and dragons was tremendous. However, it was dwarfed by his collection of t-shirts with some kind of fictional knight, dragon, or cartoon character.
At the heart of it all, Ray devoted his life to taking care of others, no matter who they were or what they needed. For example, shortly after he joined the Navy, Ray used his meager pay to help his sister pay for one semester of college. His dedication to family and friends continued throughout his life. He helped people fix their cars, their houses, and their lives. However, his primary goal was to make sure people were happy in all ways possible. Forever, he will be remembered for the good he did, and the sound of his laughter after he played a joke on a family member or friend.
In Ray's memory, live as he did, with honor, service to others, love, and laughter.
Ray is survived by his wife Dale Kastle, daughter Kathryne Ohare, Mother Gay Olka, stepfather Mike Olka, sister, Faith Chandler, and brothers: Pat Tumeo, Doug Tumeo, Robert Hoskinson, Michael Hoskinson, and Jim Hoskinson.
Celebration of Life will be Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Blizzard Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 2:00 pm.

LUKEMAN . (RCN) .. It is with great sadness that the family of William Patton Lukeman "Bill" share the news of his peaceful passing. Tenderly held by the love of his life, Linda Crawley, Bill slipped the lines and set sail in the early morning of Monday December 18, 2023. Born on Cape Breton island in 1941, Bill’s love of the sea led him to join the Navy just days after his 17th birthday. His long and accomplished career with the Navy came with many exciting endeavors. He served as Clearance Diver with the Royal Canadian Navy in the capacities of Diver, Diving Supervisor, and Diving Officer. Bill logged in excess of 6,000 hours underwater and served in various capacities in fleet and submarine service. Selected as one of two Canadian participants in the United States Navy “Man in the Sea” Program, Bill was involved in an experimental saturation dive to a depth of 825ft, with an excursion to a depth of 1,025ft. Qualified as a United States Navy Aquanaut, Bill was selected and trained as a team member of the Sealab III experiment, a 600ft open saturation diving program operating out of an ocean floor habitat. These experiences eventually led Bill to Newfoundland where he made an immense impact on the diving and marine safety of the province through his work with the Marine Lab at Memorial University. Bill went on to become the President of Hydrospace Marine Services, operating internationally in Canada, the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, South America, East Africa and India. Bill’s final venture in his exceptional career was as the Regional Emergency Operations Officer with the Canadian Coast Guard, which gifted him the opportunity, as part of his services, to appreciate the rugged beauty of Newfoundland. Bill was predeceased by his parents James and Margaret Lukeman, and brother Jim. Leaving with wonderful memories; loving spouse of 42 years, Linda, brother John (Diane), his five sisters-inlaw, and two brothers-inlaw, many nieces and nephews and a large circle of close friends. A very special mention of nephew William James Power and greatnephew Ethan Patton Power. The family extends warm gratitude to Ciaran O’shea for extraordinary friendship and frequent visits to brighten Bill’s day. The Family will receive visitors on Friday, December 22nd, from 2-9 p.m. at Carnell’s. Funeral Service to take place on Saturday, December 23rd, at 11 a.m. at Carnell’s Chapel. Livestream available to those who cannot attend in person. Private inurnment to take place at a later date. Donations in Bill’s memory can be made to the SPCA or a charity of one’s choice.
