GALANIS .. .. William Constantine Galanis (age 90) peacefully passed away on December 2, 2023. His beloved wife, Edna, preceded him in death. He leaves behind his devoted and loving daughters Pamela Galanis Miller and Penelope Galanis; his adored grandsons William Miller, James Miller and Cash Burnham; and many other family and friends. He was loved by all and known for his kindness and warm smile.
Bill was born in Washington, DC and moved to Annandale, VA when he was 12. He resided there for the rest of his life. He graduated from Fairfax High School class of 1951.
He served in the Navy aboard the submarine USS Grampus. He worked 42 years in the airline industry for National, Pan Am and Delta Airlines. After retiring, he worked 18 years for Grabill Brothers Communication. He was a member of the coffee club at Green Acres Senior Center where he met many great friends.
Bowling was his sport. In the airlines, he traveled the world bowling with his airliner coworkers. He loved hunting with his uncles and other family members and friends. The beach was also a favorite of his.
Relatives and friends may visit with family on December 12 from 11 to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home at 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032. The funeral service will be held on December 13 at 10 a.m. at Saint Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church, 3149 Glen Carlyn Road, Falls Church, Virginia 22041 with reception following.


BOARDMAN — Rodney R. Payne Jr., 64, died Sunday, Nov 26, 2023, after a brief illness.
Born March 18, 1959, son of Rodney and Sally Payne, he graduated from Canfield High School in 1977. Rodney was most proud of his Navy service in the submarine corps from 1980 to 1986. After leaving the Navy, he worked for a variety of defense contractors in California, Arizona and Texas. His last job was with a telecommunications company as an electronics engineer.
Rodney loved VFW Post 4011 in Greenville, Texas, where he lived for over 20 years. He returned to the Valley in 2019 to be closer to family. His hobbies included photography, drawing, wood carving and weekends at the range. “Junior” loved sharing his stories with any who would listen, off -label music and hearty banter. Rodney will be missed by his son, Carl Payne of Grafton, Wisconsin; mother, Sally Payne of Canfield; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin (Jacqueline); nieces, Chynella and Shantell of Boardman; and brother and sister-in-law, Jeffery (Mary) of Youngstown.
Calling hours will be 12:30 to 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec 17, 2023, at Canfield Christian Church, with a service to follow at 1:05 p.m. Join us in fellowship for a light lunch afterward.
