PETERSON .. .. Edward "Pete" Patterson, 72, of Bruce, died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, at his home from complications of agent orange. He was born on Dec. 27, 1950, in Chippewa Falls, to Kenneth and Phylis (Stockman) Patterson. Pete married Carol Worley, and they later divorced. He then married Betsy Prueher in 1995.
Pete was drafted in 1970 to the US Navy. He served his country until 1991. Yes, he joined the Navy and to see the world, but he saw it in a submarine. He retired from the Navy and went to the tech college in Rice Lake where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with an associate degree in quality assurance. He worked for Production Components (Clarion) until 2008. He ran Winterhaven Resort for two years. After that, Pete enjoyed his daily trips to the local establishments where he watched sports, betting occasionally and exchanging conversations as he enjoyed a cold, delicious Old Style in a bottle.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Amy) Patterson; two step-children, Ann (Tony) Bohl and Chuck (Heather) Prueher; two grandchildren, Guinivere and Zelotus Patterson; two step-grandchildren, Robbie and Jacob Bohl; two sisters, Sheila Rooney and Shannon "Dolly" McNamara and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Phylis Patterson; step-father, Vern Rubenzer; his brother, Kenneth Patterson; two sisters, Sharon Powers and Shirley (Don) Meyer and three brothers-in-law, Micky McNamara, Ronnie Rooney and Bill Powers.
Per Pete's wishes, there will be no service. Burial will be in the spring at Prairie View Cemetery in Lake Hallie next to his parents and brother.
SHEPHARD .. .. Maize, Kansas - Stanley "Butch" Shephard, Jr., 77, of Maize, KS, died September 14, 2023 in Wichita as a result of complications from an earlier stroke. Stanley was born in Ottawa, KS to Mary and Stanley Shephard. Butch attended high school in Princeton and Clay Center where he was on the basketball team. After graduation, at age 17, Butch joined the Navy under the "Kiddie Cruiser" program and was stationed on the USS Ronquil submarine. When asked why he volunteered for the submarine service, he said, "because it paid $50 a month more."
After his stint in the Navy, Stanley worked in the auto supply business in Salina, and later Wichita. His easy-going personality and sense of humor made him popular with the customers. In retirement, he loved spending time with his grandkids, Greyson and Alice. He also enjoyed walking his dog, Duffy, and reading crime novels.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Dorothy Jacklovich and nephew, Michael Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Jean Shephard; son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Katie Shephard; grandchildren, Greyson and Alice; sisters, Jane Gilbreath, Jackie Smith and Terry (Richard) Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. |
