We talk about new tech stuff on the new boats, but how about the tech we use on a everyday basis. Tonight, we FaceTimed with my son and daughter-in-law who just landed on the beaches of Cancun and us in Delaware.
My wife is still amazed that the call happened and while I worked on huge pieces of equipment to accomplish video calls foe the Corp I worked at is astonishing in that we had to establish 56k circuits to  call end to end. And this FaceTime was accomplished without a 56k or even a wire.
Awed and still amazed!

Yep and you can use your ball point pen upside down and the ink still comes out! (obscure old tech reference)

Joe, our Daughter gave us a Facebook Portal for Christmas. It's a great device for communicating with family. It works in conjunction with the Private Message part of Facebook. If you have WiFi you're on your way. The picture quality and sound are amazing. There's other Apps installed so it's not just a Facetime device. There's no extra cost other than the $149 for the device. Give it a look see.

If 100,000 watched her fold underclothes, how many millions did not watch? The nays have it!

A Google application is available called Hangouts. It does the same sort of thing that Facetime does.

We decided to stress-test the thing while we were in Morocco. Using the hotel's internet, we connected my Mac, my daugher's Mac in Seattle and two smart-phones in NE Florida.

The voice was pretty good, considering. The video part got a little confused since it switches what is being shown to show the person who spoke last. It was hopping all over. But it works if you have a decent wifi or wired internet connection.
