At random: ENS Sam Hunter, the first submarine casualty of WWII on Dec. 8, 1941. He was attached to Sea Dragon moored next to Sealion. He was killed by shrapnel from the first bomb hit on Sealion penetrating the conning tower of Sea Dragon. The second hit killed 4 men in Sealions Engineroom.

ANDERSON, Paul David, 72yrs, of Sherman, TX, passed away Tuesday May 15, 2018 in Denison, Texas. Visitation will be held Sunday 4-8pm May 20, 2018 at Waldo Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday 10am May 21, 2018 at Waldo Funeral Home. Father Antonio Aureus will officiate. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Paul was born January 23, 1946 to the late William Wallace Anderson and Bernice (Williams) Anderson. Paul was married to Elisa Cariaso (Sanchez) Anderson on September 8, 2001 in the Philippines. Paul is survived by his wife, Elisa C. Anderson of Sherman; son, Abe Anderson of Chicago, Illinois and Abe's mother Donna Broyles of Alton, Illinois; brother, Jon Anderson and wife Marty of Washington State; sister, Liz Walker of Oregon; sister, Ruth Buchheit of Oregon; father in-law, Alex Cariaso of the Philippines; brother in-law, Sammy Cariaso of the Philippines; sister in-law, Lerma Cariaso; nieces, Michelle, Monalyn, Angela, and Eliza Mae also of the Philippines. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Sally Williams; aunt and uncle, Carl and Ruby Williams; and his mother in-law, Beth Cariaso. Paul attended East Central College in Ada, Oklahoma and went on to serve for six years in the U.S. Navy on a nuclear submarine. He retired from Texas Instruments after 30 years. BROWN, Elbert Leon, Jr., 79, passed away May 9, 2018 in Auburn, CA. He was born in Meridian, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) with a chemical engineering degree and received an MBA from Stanford University where he graduated in the top 5% of his class. He served as Chief Munitions Officer on the nuclear submarine USS Sculpin during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked at Raychem Corporation as a Director for 32 years from 1966 - 2000. El loved to travel, read and spend time with his family and friends. An avid golfer he hit a hole in one twice, but never boasted about it. A warm, patient, generous and kind man, he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dale Brown, his siblings Beth Ifju and Mike Brown, daughters Sonya Seyle, Shirley Bacon, Laurie Laumeister, Amy Kull and Jennifer Quermann, and grandchildren Ava Seyle, Abby Seyle, Joe Kull, Ryan Kull, Charlie Bacon and Sally Battleston. Private graveside service for the family, with full military honors for El, will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA on June 18, 2018. A gathering of Friends and Family in honor of El and Dale will be held at The Winchester Community Swim and Tennis Club on June 18 from 1:30-3:30pm. Light refreshments and beverages will be served.
