BUSK, Robert A., 71, died Monday, May 7, 2018, in Gainesville, Florida, after a painful struggle with liver disease. Born on December 19, 1946, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Bob is survived by his mother, Dorothy Huners Busk, of Glendale, California; his sister, Gail Busk Naylor, of Gainesville, FL; his son, Parker Robert Busk, and his grandson, Mason Busk, both of Salt Lake City, Utah. Bob was predeceased by his father, Arthur James Busk. Three years after Bob was born, his family moved to Levittown, New York. At 10 Bob moved with his family to Lancaster, CA, and at 13 to Fort Walton Beach, FL. At 16 Bob and his parents moved to Merritt Island, FL, near Cape Canaveral, where his father worked on the space program. After graduating from Cocoa High School in 1965, Bob enlisted in the US Navy, proudly serving as a Missile Technician First Class on the nuclear submarine USS Thomas A. Edison for seven years. Bob never really left the Navy except to attend the University of Florida at Gainesville, from which he graduated in 1977 with a degree in Business Management. He and his first wife, Mercedes Jenner (née Hayes), moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, both working at the Concord Naval Weapons Station until the Station closed in 2002. Bob and his second wife, Wendy Busk (née Wenner), moved back to Gainesville, where he telecommuted to California as a Weapons Systems Designer consultant for several subcontractors for the Navy. Bob had been fascinated by all the systems on his nuclear sub and became proficient in them all. His knowledge and experience provided the groundwork for his subsequent civilian career with the Navy. Bob loved watching the Florida Gators play football and basketball. In between games he played golf. As a younger man he loved to water-ski in Florida and go trail-riding on horseback in California. Bob's body is to be cremated. A military service will be held at the Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 2:00p.m. Arrangements are under the care of MILAM FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 311 S. Main St. Gainesville, FL. 32601, 352-376-5361, www.milamfh.com. The family wishes to thank Haven Hospice for its gentle care at the end by asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Haven Hospice. Published in Gainesville Sun May 10, 2018.
