At random: In their history, submarines were called by many names such as 'eel boats', 'plunging boats', 'devil divers', and 'pig boats'. Technically, and by size, the submarine is a ship, but it has been called a boat since its earliest days, and the term is steeped in tradition. Submariners almost invariably call their ships 'boats".

Yesterday my wife and I celebrated our 57th anniversary together...Almost impossible to comprehend that it's been that long. Seems like only yesterday we met at a dance in NYC, she was 14 and I was 15.

Now don't be doing anything to celebrate that would embarrass the rest of us on the board!

No they aren't, Joe. Once a submariner, always a submariner.

Joe,

Congratulations to you both on reaching a most remarkable milestone in the marriage stakes. A few years back my old submarine mate, Jim Bellew, and his wife Elsie, celebrated their fifty year mark with a big Diamond Wedding Anniversary party put on by their family. Bobby Calder, another submariner, designed and made a beautiful illuminated trophy that included a couple of real diamonds in its display with an etched message to a pair of diamonds as a gift from Merseyside Submariners branch. Their daughter, Sharon, who had served 9 years as a Wren in the Royal Navy looked at it and said, "Pair of diamonds, my arse. You should have seen them in the taxi coming here, they were fighting like cat and dog all the way." LOL, But I'm quite sure this never happened at your celebration. Good luck and many more anniversaries to you and your good lady.

Pedro
