WHY HAS THE FATE OF THESE BROTHERS OF THE PHIN NOT DOMINATED OUR CONVERSATION? As I recall, when the Kursk went down, that was all that appeared on this board. Come on guys, these are our Shipmates "In Peril on the Sea".
It appears that many assets are now being forward deployed, but why has it taken 4 days? During my days on the old smoke boats, 4 days would be about 1 or two days too late. I don't know much about survivability on the new smoke boats, hope it is better than we had in the 1960's. We can only hope that the hull has not been breached. But given the fact that they are in relatively shallow water, why can they not blow safety tank to get them topside?
That being said, it is heartening to know that at least 5 Nations are responding with the best assets they have available.

I think because so little info is out - I think we are waiting for something solid.  The lack of concern elsewhere is what bothers me!

I have posted updates on Ron's board as they become available. There just isn't much information being put out. Other than asking for God's help. I don't know what I can do.

John,
After their possible location was surmised, we sent two P8 Orions that were dispatched to search the general areas.

Reported satellite phone pings did not come from sub reports say.
Feeling we should start looking for oil slicks sad to say. I do hope I'm wrong.

If they are down and still intact but with no power they only have about two days left before the atmosphere gets them. I know they no doubt have CO2 absorbent but that only lasts so long and bleeding O2 into the boat builds up pressure which is bad. I so hope they can make it to the surface or are there already. Keeping fingers crossed for fellow submariners.

The TRW 1700 hull was designed to have a thirty year life. German boats of that vintage were looked at when we were looking to replace the Oberon - I wrote the first ship acquisition paper. I believed an enhanced Walrus would have done the job very well.

Does that German boat have AIP?
Without battery power I can assume that they cannot convert sea water to O2?
They must have had a catastrophic failure to prevent them from blowing safety
Are there no backup communications?
Even using depth finder would emit some noise?
Do boats still have emergency buoys?
Of course flares would be no use unless they knew a ship was near.
And if they have no electricity they also have no passive sonar. And our subs are state of the art in passive, but how about active?
So many questions, few answers until we find her.

If this is true I hope help can arrive in time. So little time. So big the possible loss.

The absence of quality information is disturbing.  Time is short - Bless those in peril on the sea!
