At random: The USS Blenny SS 324, on her last patrol of WW II sank 63 vessels. One by torpedo and 62 by deck gunfire, demolition charges set by boarding parties or by burning. On several occasions shotguns were fired through the boats bottoms. These were all vessels under the 500 ton JANAC limit for tonnage sunk and not counted in the "official" totals or ships sunk. This is also a record for the most vessels ever sunk by a submarine on one patrol.

Today's "Picture of the Day" is from 90 years ago (1917) of the USS O-2 SS-63 under construction at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard here in the great northwest.

The song to go with this is a real keeper entitled "The Sailor With The Navy Blue Eyes".  You owe it to yourself to get through the song's musical intro and then listen to the words - talk about a match to most sub sailors - they must have known us well back in the early days when this song was obviously written - enjoy!

I would say that it had to be Drydock #1 (the smallest).  Number 2 was completed in 1912 and would have been used for larger vessels especially as the photo of O-2 was from the WWI era...
