The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

WETZELL .. .. .. Horace E. "Cap" Wetzell, Jr. 86 passed away July 23, 2025 with his wife, Carole, at his side at Ames Family Hospice House. Cap attended University Schools, Culver Military Academy in summers, graduated Rocky River High School in 1957 and attended Rose Polytechnic Institute. In 1964 he joined the Navy and enrolled in the Submarine School graduating first in his class. He served aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt nuclear submarine based in Holy Loch, Scotland. After the service he followed in his father's and grandfather's footsteps at Smith & Oby Co. where he became Vice President and Project Manager. He was very active in several industry organizations, but was partial to the Cleveland Welding Bureau where he served as President for a number of years.
Cap's first love was boating, where he earned his nick name Cappy, shortened to Cap when he grew up. They would put him in the captain's seat and say "there's the Captain." He met Carole when they both lived in the same apartment building. They married a year later. They would have celebrated 54 years of marriage this September. Their first boat was a 30 foot wood Lyman. They then graduated to a 37 foot wood Egg Harbor Sport Fish and finally another 37 foot Egg Harbor, this time fiberglass (boaters will understand this).
Cap served as Commodore of The Cleveland Yachting Club in 1985 following in his father's footsteps (1968). It was one of the happiest achievements in his life, after which he served as Fleet Engineer for 14 years heading up many projects at the Club including new bulkheading around the island and, with P/C Dick Slaght, he helped oversee the building of a new bridge to the island.
"One of the many plusses of spending most of our time at the club was all the many dear kids that still call us Aunt Carole and Uncle Cap. Maybe because we kept popsicles on the boat!"
Beloved husband of 54 years of Carol (nee Zickes). Brother of Anne Williams (Jeff). Uncle of Jay Williams (Edie) and the late Peter Williams (Erika).
Carole would like to extend her deepest gratitude to the many friends who came forward with love and support these last weeks.

FATHERLY .. .. .. Quinn Martin Fatherley, 58, died July 13, 2025; a U.S. Navy veteran and nuclear engineer who served aboard submarines and later worked at Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore national laboratories, he was known for his mechanical skill, global curiosity, and connecting with others.

Sorry to see Wetzell's passing. One of the old timers on the 600. RIP Shipmate.
