At random: A church in Kyoto, Japan calls its congregation to worship with a bell from a submarine. The bell, from the submarine USS RAY was purchased for the church, and was transported to Yokosuka, Japan by another submarine, the USS RONQUIL.

I see that Chrysler is doubling their $500 dollar discount on new car purchases for vets and active duty personnel. Isn't the end of the world but it is better than nothing.
If there is any interest, give me a holler and I will forward their email to you.
Cheers,
Ron

Last year I bought a new Dodge Charger and asked about that published vet discount. I was told you had to have been a retired vet or active. Maybe they changed the offer but I don't think so.

You may well have something there. It does say retired veterans but also says this.

"If you are currently serving, have served or are an eligible member of our military, you may take advantage of a $500 Military Appreciation Bonus Cash Allowance¹ to use toward the purchase or lease of most new Chrysler vehicles. And if you know eligible military members, please forward them this eMail so they can enjoy this special offer.

Since America will be honoring the service of our military this coming Memorial Day, we're offering an additional $500 Military Appreciation Bonus Cash Allowance² for a limited time — for up to a total of $1,000 in Military Appreciation Bonus Cash Allowance! "

Beats me. I bought a car last year after my Intrepid got wiped out so definitely not interested this year. I wasn't aware of this program so it didn't even enter into the pic.

I have only owned two Chrysler products. The first one was an outstanding pickup that I drove for quite a number of years with no problems until my son totaled the darn thing.

The second one was a Dodge Ram1500 4X4. It was one beautiful truck. I kept the truck for five years and finally had endured all the problems that I could stand. It was a great truck to drive to the gas station and then back to the repair shop. After spending quite a few thousand dollars on repairs during the time that I owned (65000 miles) it I traded it for a different manufacturers vehicle. Chrysler would have to offer a far greater discount for me to even consider one of their products.

I just traded in a 2004 Ram 1500 quad cab.  I loved the truck - had no problems except the intermittent wiper switch was going out (sometimes you'd get 2 or 3 swipes rather than 1).  Traded it only because 12-14 miles/gal for a daily driver was way too low.  Miss having a truck (first time in a looooong time) but when I gassed up yesterday at 4.15/gal, I didn't miss it quite so much.

fueled my Chev Silverado this morning on 87 oct. $3.35/gal. I had to do a high speed/80-85mph run to Columbia, SC and back and got 17.3m/gal. Not bad mileage for toting a load both ways
I bought this Silverado Ext. Cab, new back in '03. At the time, I considered a Dodge Ram, but, when measuring the cab area, the Dodge was a bit narrower across the beam. Back then I was a little broad across the beam but now am slim and trim to where I could get lost inside an S-10.

I love my 2007 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4X4, granted the gas mileage here on post is horrible (for another few weeks and then I am retired) with 67,000 on the odometer the front ball joints have been replaced and I have the passengers side front strut leaking fluid, nothing that a few hours in the shop turning wrenches cant fix and not by the dealer.

when I bought it 5 years ago I got 21 MPG on the highway now that is down to about 18

I've been a long-time Chrysler fan- I've owned:

1982 Dodge Omni Miser

1982 Plymouth Sapporo

1985 Dodge Lancer

1986 Dodge 600 2 door sedan

1988 Dodge Dakota "S"

2005 Dodge Magnum SXT

2008 Dodge Ram 1500

All, except the '85 Lancer, have been reliable, comfortable and enjoyable to own/drive.  I did move out of the Dodge camp this time with a 2011 Buick Regal Turbo (even 6 speed manual equipped!), but we gave strong consideration to a Challenger R/T- just couldn't pass up the fuel economy savings of the Regal.
