You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate. [Coyote is traveling.] CRAMER .. .. .. Forrest E. Cramer, 84, of Colchester, CT, passed away peacefully on September 20th following a brief illness. Born in Middletown, Ohio, to the late Forrest E. Cramer, Sr. and Lois Jean (Banta) Cramer, he was nicknamed "Skeeter" at birth-a name that stayed with him throughout his life among family and friends. A U.S. Navy submarine veteran, Forrest was a longtime member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans Association, Groton Base, where he served in the Honor Guard and was a member of the Holland Club, honoring submariners who have qualified in submarines and earned their "Dolphins" for 50 years or more. He proudly served aboard the USS Albacore, AGSS-569, and SSBN-640 Benjamin Franklin. Forrest's civilian career in the travel industry took him from Kenya to Shanghai, Europe to the Caribbean, and many places in between. He loved high school reunions, creating elaborate R2D2 Halloween costumes for his daughter, Santa-Clausing a Christmas drum set, sailing with his kids and dog, and arts and crafts projects for his home and church. Above all, he loved sailing from Noank at the helm of Suzy Sea, where he enjoyed the open water and endless horizons. Forrest is survived by his wife, Suzanne; children, Kristen Cramer and her wife, Nancy Swanson; Scott Cramer and his wife, Denise Cramer; Michael Gomez; and Emily Murphy. He took special joy in his grandchildren, Colson Gomez, and Charlotte and Isabel Murphy. One of eight children, Forrest also leaves behind beloved brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews, many of whom still call him "Skeeter", and extended Carrier, Cramer, and Thomas families, who cherished his spirit, and stories of travel and seafaring adventures. ANDERSON .. .. .. DEER ISLE, MAINE—May 13, 1942, to September 16, 2026. Bill died suddenly, at home at “Grand Central Cove” with his wife of almost 58 years near him. He was born in Washington, D.C. to Anita Spencer Tarrant Anderson and Captain Charles Harper Anderson. He graduated from Philips Academy in Andover, Mass., and went on to graduate with honors from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., where he was captain of the squash team. Bill served on the submarine USS Nathanael Greene as communications officer, and as such, he had a translator’s certificate in Russian. After six years, he resigned his commission and went on to his next career after graduating from Harvard Law School. The first year there, he went to every class, and bought all the books. In the second year, he went to every class, and in the third year, his wife is not sure what he was doing toward graduation in 1971, as he was volunteering at a poverty law center, and marching as a peace activist. Meanwhile, in 1968, he married Lanny, whom he had met on July, 4, 1958 at Salmon Point. Elana Caffee Brown became Mrs. Anderson as Bill assumed the role of father to John C. Garrels IV and Elizabeth Longworth Garrels, aka “Jake” and “Lizie.” Under Lanny’s tutelage, Bill learned to sail here in Deer Isle. Bill practiced law in Boston, and then went on to work for Thomas J. Lipton in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. From there the family moved to Hinsdale, Ill., when Bill became general counsel for a branch of Lipton. By then the family included Mayotta Holbrook Anderson, (“Maysie”, who predeceased her father in 2013) and William Spencer Anderson (Spencer). Bill and all of us enjoyed our time living in Darien, Conn., and he cheerfully commuted to NYC, still at Lipton. Bill’s next job, his favorite (for pay, that is), was general counsel for a large dairy cooperative in Seattle, Wash. Thinking they would stay in Seattle only until Maysie graduated from law school and Spence from college, it only took five days there on their deck overlooking Mount Rainier, the Cascades, the Olympics, and Elliot Bay, to decide to “stay put”. They loved their time together out there, making lifelong friends. In 2013, with all of their children on the East Coast or London, Lanny and Bill decided to return to Deer Isle to live out retirement closer to their beloved family. Here on the island, Bill entered an active retirement, serving as Chairman of the Board at Opera House Arts, and toiling away at Island Workforce Housing. Bill was an active member of the Deer Isle Sunset Congregational Church, and ran successful Oasis Cafés there on July Fourth for many years. At age 81, he decided to become an EMT, and there he found a new passion and even, in a way, a new family. Bill played bridge as he lived— thoughtfully, deliberately, studiously, and became a bronze Life Master. His bedside table held a stack of books—ranging from works of David Sedaris to Plato, and of course, the Bridge Bulletin. Bill’s brother Charles Harper Anderson, Jr. died in 2012. Bill is survived by sister, Anita Anderson Lustenberger, of Portland, Ore., his wife, Elana Anderson, his son Jake, of Keene, N.H. and Deer Isle, daughter Eliza, (Chris Childs) of Suffield, Conn., and Deer Isle, son Spencer, (Francesca Liberatore) of Deer Isle, and grandchildren Anna Caffee Gill and her husband Robert of Norwich, Vt., Maysie Alcorn Childs and her fiancé Dan Caporale, Christopher Hayden Childs all of San Francisco, Calif., Penelope Grace Anderson and Lorenzo William Anderson of Deer Isle, and great-granddaughter Mayotta Hatheway Barrell of Norwich, Vt. He was loved by so many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends it would take up this entire newspaper to name them. | ||
