I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

DICK .. .. .. Rickey Garthel Dick, 73, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, in Sebring, Florida.
Rickey was born on June 6, 1953, in Albertville, Alabama, to Robert and Carolyn Dick.
Rickey proudly served his country in the Army National Guard and later in the United States Navy Submarine Service for three years before dedicating his life to public service. He served the people of Florida for 30 years as a Florida Highway Patrol State Trooper and was elected Sheriff of Hardee County. Throughout his life, he remained committed to protecting and serving others. He was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Away from his years of public service, Rickey enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved speck fishing, riding motorcycles, and bringing old cars and tractors back to life. But his favorite place in the world was the back porch of his home in northeast Alabama, where he found peace and contentment.
Above all, Rickey loved his family. He and his beloved wife, Susan, shared 50 years of marriage filled with love, faith, and devotion. One of Rickey's greatest blessings and proudest accomplishments was the family they built together. He often said that one of the greatest joys of his life was seeing the adults his children became.
Throughout their childhood, whenever Travis or Kimberly set out to do something, Rickey would simply tell them, "Make Dad proud." They always did. As adults, they continued to live lives that made him proud every single day.
His greatest pride and joy were his four grandchildren, affectionately known to him as "Lil' Bird," "Sugar Baby," "Love Bug," and "Doodle Bug." They brought endless happiness to his life and filled his heart with pride.
Rickey is survived by his loving wife, Susan Dick; his son, Travis Dick (Michele); his daughter, Kimberly Benbow (Jonathan); his grandchildren, Ransom Dick, Tristan Dick, Kathryn Benbow, and Olivia Benbow; his sisters, Kathy Johnson and Darlene Dick; his brother, Richard Dick; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Carolyn Dick; his brother, Ronnie Dick; and his sister, Brenda Dick.
Rickey's greatest accomplishment wasn't his career. It was the family he loved, the children he raised, the grandchildren who adored him, and the example he set through a life of faith, integrity, and service. His family will forever hear his familiar words, "Make Dad proud," and they will continue to do just that. His legacy will live on in each of them.

With deep sadness we share the passing of Warren Page Rucker, aged 93, of Ruckersville, on July 24, 2026. He passed at home with his family beside him. He was born June 3, 1933 in Mt. Airy, NC, but grew up in and around Lynchburg, VA. His parents, Ney Rucker and Helen Page Rucker Coffey, and his beloved wife of 61 years, Mieko Arashiro Rucker, predeceased him.
He is survived by son Wade Rucker of Ruckersville, daughter Miwa Rucker of Charlottesville, and dear sisters Mary Gail Wooldridge of Yantis, TX, Anne Gorman of Lynchburg, and Ivey Nance of Lordsburg, NM.
Warren attended Madison Heights High School and graduated from what was then the High School Dept. of Ferrum Junior college. His bachelor's degree was from the University of New Mexico, his master's from the University of Virginia, and he completed PhD coursework at the University of Michigan. In addition, he attended VMI, Tulane, Texas Western, and the University of MD, Asian Division.
He served in the Navy and Army and was proud of his dolphins and parachute wings. Warren was a Life member of United States Submarine Veterans and Special Forces Association. He was a member of the Rucker Family Society and Washington, DC Okinawa Kai.
Warren retired in 1991 from civilian employment with the federal government. He was awarded both the Secretary of the Army Medal for Superior Service and the Secretary of the Army Medal for Exceptional Service as well as the Medal for Civilian Service in Vietnam. In 2011 he was inducted into the University of Oklahoma's Educators Hall of Fame.
He was a loyal and supportive friend to people all over the world. He was an extraordinarily dedicated and loving husband and father. Our love and gratitude for him are boundless.

BROWN .. .. .. It is with great sadness that the family of Kevin David Brown announces his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Born in Saint John, NB, on July 24, 1971, he was a son of Jane (Campbell) Brown and the late David Brown.
Kevin leaves behind his loving wife of 21 years to the day Eva; his mother, Jane; children, Justin, Marissa (Jordan), Elijah; his grandson, Weston and sister-in-law Donna . In addition to his father, Kevin was predeceased by his younger brother, Tim.
Kevin grew up in St. Martin’s and attended Saint John High School. As a young man, he proudly represented Team New Brunswick in swimming at the Canada Games. He went on to serve in the Royal Canadian Navy for 20 years, including 18 years aboard submarines, traveling to many foreign ports. Following his retirement from the military Kevin worked in various locations across the country as a HSE. He took great pride in the work he did in Kitimat, British Columbia, where he worked alongside the project team and built the first LNG storage tank in Kitimat. Kevin also felt very honoured getting to come home to Saint John, New Brunswick to work his land and be close to his family. Kevin was a sports enthusiast and devoted Boston Red Sox fan, when he was younger enjoyed listening to WEEi sports radio with his friends. Above all, Kevin was a dedicated family man who would do anything for those he loved. One of his proudest moments being the birth of his grandson, Weston. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

“Sonar Technician Submarine 3rd Class Timothy S. Sanders, assigned to USS Helena (SSN 725), was found deceased onboard the boat pierside at Naval Station Norfolk, Va. on May 24, 2024. We deeply mourn the loss of our shipmate, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Sailor’s family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time. Grief counseling services and support are being provided through the chain of command and local chaplain resources. The U.S. Navy is cooperating fully with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), who are investigating this incident. As a matter of policy, the Navy does not discuss ongoing investigations.
