I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate. 

WHITE .. .. .. Paul Geltmacher White, Jr, age 95 of Portsmouth, RI passed away on July 19, 2025 of natural causes. His parents were Estelle and Dr. Paul White. He was married to Georgia Joan White in 1952 after graduating from the United States Naval Academy.
Paul grew up in Pomona, California and graduated from Pomona High School. After graduation, he was nominated for the Naval Academy by Richard Nixon. Paul’s lifelong interest in science aided him in winning the Daughters Of The Confederacy Physics prize for physics. Paul graduated from the Naval Academy with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
As a junior officer, Paul’s first naval assignment was on a picket destroyer patrolling the North Korean peninsula during the Korean War. In 1959, he attended the U.S. Naval Postgraduate school, studying physics and graduated with an M.S. in Physics.
In 1962, Admiral Hyman Rickover recommended him for Submarine School which then took the family on a whirlwind tour of moving to different submarine related schools – sometimes moving every six months. In 1966, his first duty submarine was the SSN SNOOK, based in San Diego. After his tour of duty ended, Paul joined the crew of SSBN GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER as Executive Officer. In 1970, Paul assumed command of SSBN THOMAS JEFFERSON.
Subsequent to his command, he was transferred to Offutt Air Force base in Omaha, attached to the JSTPS staff. The next duty station for Paul was to the Washington D.C. area to work on a light anti-submarine torpedo development program.
Paul retired after 25 years of service in 1977 and resided in Portsmouth to work for the Aquidneck Data Corporation. He enjoyed sailing, building computers, astronomy, and watching the Red Sox.
Paul’s wife, Joan, died in 2020. He is survived by his children Paul, Leslie, and Kirk; his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

FLYNN .. .. .. Owen William Jr. Flynn 1958-2025 Known as Billy in his younger days.
Proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. Served aboard the USS Nautilus, SSN-571, submarine.
Passed away surrounded by loving family after a brief battle with cancer.
Loving son of the late Anne (nee Murphy) and the late Owen Flynn Sr.
Beloved brother of John (Mary Beth), Annemarie, Lorretta (Daryl) Steffeter, Anthony (Patti), Thomas and Timothy (Laurie).
Cherished uncle of 11 and adored great uncle of 5. Owen has donated his body to science, services are private. May he Rest in Peace.

ROBERTS .. .. .. Charles Ray Roberts died Saturday, Oct. 1. He was 66. Born in Monroe, LA on Oct. 21, 1955, he was the son of the late Dr. William Owens Roberts and Mary Elizabeth Roberts. He was a graduate of East Union Academy and attended Louisiana Tech. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era aboard the USS Lapon SSN- 661 nuclear submarine. He had been a resident of Vicksburg for most of his adult life. He retired in 2010 from Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Moore.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Martha Baughman Roberts; his children: Tiffany Michelle Scallions, Andrew Clarke Penley (Jennifer), and Kevin Charles Roberts, all of Vicksburg; five grandchildren: Blake Scallions, Madison Palmer (Brandon), Olivia Scallions, Mason Penley, and Bella Roberts; his siblings, Janice Hammond of West Monroe, LA, Shirley Langley of Lake Charles, LA, Stacie Hart of Farmerville, LA, and Bill Roberts (Rhonda) of Farmerville, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
