I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

BRUCE .. .. .. Steven Michael Bruce was born on December 17, 1974 in Saratoga Springs, NY to Stuart and Debbie Bruce. He was the first of two children – his brother David being born in 1979. After many moves, the Bruce family settled in West Richland, WA in 1989. He graduated from Hanford High School in 1993. Unbeknownst to Steve and his future wife, Kristin, they were both at a Bryan Adams concert in April 1993 at The Tri-Cities Coliseum, both standing by the encore stage.
On May 10, 1995, his daughter, Cayla Bryn, was born. She was brought home from the hospital in his cherished ’67 Dodge Dart.
On June 18, 1996, his second daughter, Ashley Carolina, was born. He loved how she was such a cuddle bug.
On January 15, 1999, his first son, Andrew Conner, was born. He was thrilled to add to the Bruce Boys and carry on the family name.
On December 31, 2011, he married Kristin Charlo. She has always described the moment she married Steve as the first day she ever felt euphoric.
On October 27, 2014, his second son, Wyatt Samuel, was born and completed the Steve Bruce family. A little older, a little wiser, no longer in the Navy, he saw this as his chance to be a very present Dad, and he did just that.
Steve joined the Navy in December 1997. He was an 11-year submarine service veteran having served aboard two Fleet Ballistic Missile submarines - the USS Georgia SSBN 729 and the USS Nebraska SSBN 739 - and one Fast Attack submarine, the USS Connecticut, SSN 22. He was also a prototype instructor in Ballston Spa, NY. Following his discharge, he worked for Energy Northwest earning his Senior Reactor Operator license. In Operations, he served as a Shift Support Supervisor, Control Room Supervisor, and a Shift Manager. He was also a Simulator Instructor, training others to achieve and maintain their Operator licenses.
One item on Steve and Kristin’s bucket list was to visit New England in the fall, and Steve had always wanted to go back to where he was born. Since Andy was stationed in Ballston Spa, but soon to get out of the Navy (in July 2026), Steve seized the opportunity and planned a cross-country road trip from WA to NY and back last fall (2025). It was THE BEST trip. The most cherished memories were made! They had just planned another trip back to New England for Fall 2027, and Steve had wanted to spend two weeks just in Upstate NY – he loved it there that much.
Steve absolutely loved family get-togethers. After every single one, he would be on a high, his spirits lifted. He thoroughly enjoyed his hobbies: making lightsabers and knives. Although he had been making knives for 10+ years, he had his workshop built in the garage in March 2025 and turned it into a proper knife-making facility. He was so content working on his knives. He and Kristin watched many “Forged in Fire” episodes, especially in the last three months. He was so funny. He loved to joke. He loved to laugh. He could be very deep and serious. He was the ultimate storyteller. He loved to help anybody at any time. His wit was unmatched. His memory of movie lines and song lyrics was astounding. His favorite holiday by far was Christmas. He loved traditions. And oh goodness, did he love his cat, T.C.! He gave the best hugs.

PARRY .. .. .. PARRY, Ivor Timothy Died peacefully at home following a lengthy illness on August 6, 2002. He will be truly missed by his loving wife of 43 years, Georgette, his sons David and Daniel and his wife Donna, his dear mother-in-law, Dorothy Foy and his sister-in-law Dorothy Foy-O’Neill, his grandchildren, Nicholas, Amanda and Ryan. Ivor is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, David and Mary Frances Parry and his sister Joan Berry. Ivor was born in San Francisco. He and his wife moved to Rohnert Park in 1960. He was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Usher for many years. As a member of the first Volunteer Fire Department in Rohnert Park, before becoming a city, he responded to many fires locally and in the Sonoma County area. Ivor coached Pop Warner football for nine years. Having served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Forces for six years, he was current Life Member of the U.S.N. Submarine Veterans. He worked for the City of Rohnert Park and retired from Pacific Bell Telephone Company and Golden Gate Bridge District.

HYTTINEN .. .. .. Randy Hyttinen, a beloved husband, stepfather, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on August 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 3, 1951, in Hazen, North Dakota, Randy was a devoted family man and a cherished friend to many. A celebration of Randy’s life will be held on August 30, 2026, from 1:00 PM CST to 5:00 PM CST at the Black Sands Golf Club in Beulah, ND, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share stories of his life.
Randy and Judy were married on March 11, 2001, in Las Vegas, where they began their life together. The couple made their home in Beulah, North Dakota, finding joy in spending five winters basking in the warmth of Arizona. Randy's love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life.
After graduating from Beulah High School in 1969, Randy pursued higher education in Grand Forks for a year before answering the call of duty by joining the United States Navy. He served his country with honor for seven years, working aboard submarines and ships. Following his military service, Randy built a successful career as an Instrument Technician with MDU, where he worked diligently from 1979 until his well-earned retirement.
Randy was a man of many talents and interests. He was a proud member of the VFW and found great joy in his membership at the Black Sands Golf Club. An avid golfer, bowler, and pool player, Randy’s competitive spirit and love for life were infectious. Known for his meticulous attention to detail, Randy approached everything with precision and care. His warm personality and willingness to lend a helping hand were matched only by his appreciation for a good margarita and a cold Miller Lite.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents John and Thelma Hyttinen, son-in-law Steve and granddaughter Nikki. He was deeply loved by his surviving family: his devoted wife of 25 years, Judy, and stepchildren Lori and Ken, along with Ken's wife, Michelle. Randy's siblings, sister Lianna with her husband Lonny and brothers Terry with his wife Sue, and Greg with his wife Judy, along with his seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews will forever hold him in their hearts.

GLASSBURN .. .. .. Robert Michael “Mike” Glassburn, 71, of Salina, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. He was born in Salina, on September 27, 1954, to Robert Harold and Shirley Ann (Boos) Glassburn. Mike attended South High School and was in the second graduating class in 1972. Shortly after graduation, Mike joined the United States Navy as a Sonar Technician and worked on the USS Scamp and USS Ethan Allen submarines from 1972-1978.
Mike worked as a courier for FedEx in Salina, for 30 years before retiring in 2016. He was an avid sports fan and proudly supported the K-State Wildcats, Kansas City Royals, Washington Redskins, and Boston Celtics. He loved his family dearly and cherished every opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren. One of his greatest joys was attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was their biggest fan and never wanted to miss a game.
Mike also had a generous heart and passion for helping others. Each Thanksgiving, he enjoyed visiting the local homeless shelter, where he would give a turkey to those in need.
Most importantly, Mike was a devoted follower of Christ. He loved the Lord deeply and found great comfort and joy in spending time in God’s word. He faithfully read his Bible each day, and his faith was an important part of who he was and how he lived his life. His love for Christ, his family, and those around him will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, JoEllen, of the home; children, Tiffany Glassburn, of Salina, Jacob Glassburn (Lesley), of Manhattan; grandchildren, Kiersten Schmitt, Khadin Glassburn-Heang, Khaleb Glassburn-Heang (Arianna Ibarra), and Paxton Hull, all of Salina; great-grandchildren, Parker Schmitt, Raya Schmitt, and Amelia Glassburn-Heang and niece, Melissa Adkins, of Salina; great nephews Taven Haith, Remedy Adkins of Salina.
