Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted. I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate. ANDERSON .. .. .. Captain Lawrence (Larry) Anderson, US Navy, of Georgetown passed away in his home during the early morning hours of July 20, 2024, following a series of illnesses. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Cynthia Lackey Anderson, his daughter Joanna Anderson Tubbs and granddaughters Madelyn and Cora, all of Georgetown, his sisters Karen Jaggers of Goodyear, AZ; Carolyn Smith of Georgetown; Glenda Plowman of Weatherford, TX; Lynda Curik of Cedar Park; and sister-in-law Margaret Lackey Fraker of Dallas, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was born in 1942 in Rockford, IL to Vernon and Katherine Anderson and moved to Texas as a youth. Growing up in Rockdale, TX, he finished high school before spending 5 years at the University of Texas, earning a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and completing the Navy ROTC program. After graduation in 1965 he joined active service in the US Navy Submarine program. Larry was initially assigned to a diesel submarine for 18 months before his assignment on the USS Nathan Hale, where he served as Engineering Officer. Following his required service, Larry received a scholarship to MIT where he earned an MBA in Finance and a Masters in Nuclear Engineering in 1974. He moved to Maryland and began a lengthy career working for the Federal Government. He reported to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for several years before being promoted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), where he worked until his retirement in 2002. Larry served as Director of the Electrical Rate Division for several years before reassignment to other positions within FERC, and frequently testified before Congress’ oversight committees. Simultaneously, Larry rose through the ranks of the Navy Ready Reserve to the rank of Captain. He served in a variety of positions at the Pentagon and ended his service as a Commanding Officer of a Norfolk, VA submarine unit. Following retirement in 2003, he and Cynthia returned to Georgetown to manage family property in Williamson County. In those years, Larry especially enjoyed building fences and structures for the cattle on their ranch. He also enjoyed his friendships within a men’s breakfast group associated with San Gabriel Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, travel with Senior University, and playing 42. In later years, medical infirmities kept him from group associations. He was awarded a Distinguished Alumnus award in 2024 by Rockdale High School. He was a hardworking man loved by his family for his dry wit, good sense of humor, and dedication to “getting the job done.” | ||
