DRESSEL, William George, Sr., 91, of Juniper Village died there on June 21, 2017. He was the husband of the late [11/5/2016] Gloria Y. Lehr Dressel whom he was married to for 68 years. Born in York, PA on May 26, 1926, he was the son of the late Edward and Evelyn Yingling Dressel. He had a distinguished 32 year career with the Navy as an engineer on submarines, and served in both World War II [Bluegill, Pomfret] and the Korean War [Irex, Angler]. He saw extensive action in the Philippines, participating in two major battles. His submarine, the USS Bluegill made national news back in 1945 destroying a small island in the Pacific that was being used by the Japanese to send messages informing their superiors of the locations of Allied subs. He received a number of medals for his service, including the Presidential Citation. Following the war, he worked at the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot and the Navy Department in Washington, D.C. Bill graduated from North York High School and was a member of the Hebron United Methodist Church, Lebanon. Surviving is his son and daughter-in-law, William G. Dressel, Jr., and Iris of Robbinsville, NJ; his daughter and son-in-law, Debrah A. Cornwell, and Michael of Woodbridge, VA; and his grandson, William Michael Cornwell. Private graveside services with full military honors and inurnment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Rev. Warren Hoopes officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Juniper Village, 1125 Birch Road, Lebanon, PA 17042 in his memory.
