PRIOR, Arthur George, passed away on June 14, 2017. Born in Iron River, Michigan in 1951, Art spent his youth in Chicago and was a lifelong Cubs fan. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1969 and had a 20 plus year career in service to our country. During the last 10 years of his Naval service, he served as "Chief corpsman of the boat" doing medical duty on submarines. At the time of his service on the USS Seahorse, he and his crewmates were one of only two U.S. submarines to circumnavigate the globe. After retiring in 1990 he moved his family to Reno to be near to his wife's family. He attended the University of Nevada and earned his B.S.N. from Orvis School of Nursing. Upon completion of his nursing degree he was employed in various mental health positions. Art enjoyed playing golf, and he was an avid bowler participating in numerous Reno bowling leagues. He spent much time traveling with family and friends, and he cherished those times. Art's white pickup truck was always easily identified by his personalized Nevada license plates that read "SUBDOC". Art was preceded in death by his parents George and June Prior. He is survived by his wife Millie, daughter Anna Close (James), and granddaughter Lucy. A memorial service will be held at VFW Post 3819, located in the California Building at Idlewild Park in Reno, at 12 noon, on Wednesday June 21, 2017, with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, Art's family has requested that donations be made to Kindred Hospice in Art's name. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Kindred Hospice and Home Instead. The family will forever be indebted to them for the loving care they provided. Published in Reno Gazette-Journal on June 18, 2017
