Had the main PC in the shop. After talking with my repair guy we thought that some hardware was getting old and "tired".
They ran full diagnostics on the machine and everything passed but we still needed to find out why I was still crashing and freezing. After talking it over and some research we decided that the cheapest fix to try for now would be to up the amount of RAM from 1 to 4 Gigs and then do a complete reinstall of the OS, Linux Mint 18.1, 64 bit MATE version.
Then I download all the current fixes and upgrades to take care of any hardware gremlins that there may be hanging around after they did a virus scan and purge.
The upshot, this this thing is quick and after a few hours of testing it still is not having any issues with its old problems. So far, so good.
Next possible things I could do, for laughs, is to upgrade the processor and video card if I wanted, but for now that doesn't seem necessary.
Still have a few more things to down load and or install before I am back to work on updates for PigBoats.COM.

Never had one of those but I started with and IBM PCjr. Had to program it in Basic before I got a few game and program cartridges. Fun games. Wish I still had some of those. Had to hook it to a TV for use. |
