Alfred Ullman S1/c
submitted by George Herold

This guy went to Sub School with me during the summer of 1941. I was a 17 year old, fresh out of boot camp (Newport) and Ullman was about 19/20 - just came from a battleship at Pearl to Sub School so he could see his folks in Philadelphia once in a while.

He was like a mentor, a real neat dude. I never saw him again after Oct '41. He was going to a new boat, GRUNION, and I, via SUBDIV41, was in Pearl Harbor, late Oct in '41. Ten months later he was lost on GRUNION.

I'll always remember him putting nickels in the juke box playing "This Love of Mine" in the old Victory Cafe in New London.
