Alfred J. Schuster, age 79, died 4-21-2000.  He enlisted on 12-11-41 and served 5-1/2 years on R-12, S-15 & USS Cobbler.

EWING -- Alfred J. Schuster, 79, died Friday at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Born in Pennington, he lived in Ewing since 1943.

Mr. Schuster was executive secretary for the state Board of Medical Examiners for eight years. Previously, he was employed by American Standard Inc. for 31 years. Mr. Schuster was a township committeeman, served as mayor of Ewing for nine years and was township police commissioner for 15 years.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served as Chief Petty Officer in the Submarine Service for five and a half years.

Mr. Schuster served as past president of the Brae Burn Civic Association, township police reserve, township planning board, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7298, Pennington Road Fire Co., Local 175 International Brotherhood of Operative Potters, American Legion Post 314, township Little League, Babe Ruth and Athletic Club.

Mr. Schuster was an avid golfer who participated in the state Seniors Golf League and with local groups at Mt. View and Mercer Oaks.

Son of the late Henry and Catherine Falmaletta Schuster, he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Leona Comfort Schuster; a son, Warren D. Schuster of Lawrenceville; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Schuster of Ewing; two grandchildren, Lorrie and Kate Schuster of Ewing; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be private.

Burial will be in Ewing Cemetery.

Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Parkside Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 1584 Parkside Ave., Ewing.

Contributions may be made to the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, 130 S. Ninth St., Room 400, Philadelphia, PA 19107.
